197 gearbox in a 172

anyone done it? is it a case of a straight swop i.e same driveshafts etc. Anyone know if the speedo pick up is the same as on my cup

Dont think the bell housing bolts line up with a 172 block either, would probably have to use 197 engine and box.

Are the 197's six speed, if so, as mentioned above would imagine some cutting would be needed

Yea 6 speed, NDO box i think, there quite a bit bigger than a 172 box, cable linkage too.

197 box has different bell housing, will not bolt to a 172 engine without some major modification, then on top of that its a fair bit bigger than the 172 box so withough modification to the engine bay it wnt fit to easily

adapter plate, new fly wheel, new box mounts and custom drive shafts and it'll go in

yeah, but its el expensive! second hand sadev money, but it retains the OE shifter and casings
