197 - new Top gear mag

Top Gear have a feature on the 197 this month. Not sure if its news but apparently Recaro race seats will be an option, not 182 Trendline's, but full-on single piece glass fibre efforts.

Seems a little extreme, I remember the initial 172 Cup brochure had stuff about uprated brakes, roll-cages and plumbed in fire-extinguishers being options so I guess you could say its "subject to change"

As an aside, they've got a pic of it from low and behind, it looks bloody gorgeous.

coolio, who needs to go faster than 130 anyways, well done for them realising this. that rear diffuser will keep the backend in check as the cups/172 is way too light and twitchy for any speeds above 100

Yeah I've never understood the thing with top speed, how many people ever get near it?! As long as its still going well past 110 without any trouble it will never have a problem on track.

Exactly right, it's easy to sit at top speeds, but there's no fun in that, it's the acceleration and cornering that makes all the fun :D

The current one is relatively fast up to a point, but its pretty slow really anywhere near its current top speed. I havent paid enough attention but mine really seems to slow down much above about 120 anyway.

From the gear ratios posted up a while ago, it's not aerodynamics or lack of power that restrict the top speed, it's the gearing. 18.94mph per 1000rpm, so assuming the red line is at 7000 in 6th that gives 133mph.
Red line is 7500 according to their site, but I would gess it is lower in 4th to 6th.

You reckon these will be easy enough to get a test drive in? if i took my 182 along as a part exchange, just want to see how it compares really

You drive at the ring you have to corner at speeds of 100 plus, so it helps.

wtf?
do they really glass fibre seats? Seems overkill to me? Knowing Reno it's probably a trick anyway, publicitity hype. They'd be better just sticking in the current Recaro's?

Be good if they specced carbonfibre/kevlar buckets but somehow I don't think it'll happen.

^^ Renault usually have a few tricks up their sleaves, but i doubt such seats will be specced on this model, maybe on the Cup or Trophy variants...

Tyson.
