197 strange engine noise. help please

Just spoken to RUK.

Bottom line is, they do not think the noise is a problem and they will not replace the item / items that go with it.

The Cam-belt pulleys and tensioners are serviceable items (As with anything on a car if you leave it long enough)

They would only replace said parts if it goes totally wrong. And there is no guarantee after my warranty runs out that they will replace it either. They would only "look into it"

I can understand there side and where they are coming from, and it may not go wrong until it needs to be replaced in September 2012. But you never know.

Like I said on page 2 I had one in with this exact fault and a new dephaser fixed it. CLIP can confirm it to so I don't get why, if there is a problem, it isn't changeable under warranty... I guess they're treating it as a wearable part so not covered.

Thats what they said, its a wear and tear part. I expect to a certain degree any part is if you leave it long enough.

There is a 200 with the same problem and same noise as mine on here. The thread is in the engine / gearbox section. It will be interesting to see what the dealer comes back with, with that car.

I guess ultimately the car is going to need inspection as the tensioner issue is another highly probable cause.
