197's/200's really that bad on fuel

  E92 325D
this isnt a mpg thread on a single car its a comparison of 3 variations of the clio and if the loss in mpg is worth the gain in performance im not arsed about mpg as long as the car is worth it buy sounds of it 197/200 arent

Im with Matt. Its 100% worth it. I really dont like my mates 182. Its small. Noisy. Dash looks like a bag of shite. The 197/200 is a much nicer place to be. All mod cons. Being larger it feels more stable.

1*2 > 197/200 imo.

They made a bigger, heavier car that goes the same speed as the old one and costs more to run.

Was speaking to my mate the other day and he was saying the MPG in my R26 is better than his 200!

  DON'T SEND ME PM'S!!
My mpg has improved with fitting my induction kit prototype. So much more low down torque you don't have to drive as aggressively to get moving. Its still dreadful compared to much faster cars I've owned but I can get over 30 all the time now, where I was getting 26/27. 10% is noticeable

You never see people complaining about the V6 fuel economy, and they're not any faster than a 182.

  197ff, 172
If I am very careful and using super unleaded I get 33 mpg in the 197 in the 172 I can manage that without trying. The 197 likes a drink. It is however a way nicer place to sit and it grips more and stops way better. Parts and general wear costs are far more too. If I were only allowed 1 clio I would sell both of mine and buy a very good ph1 172 if I was only using the car on the road I would keep the 197.

On a recent trackday i was passing 197s and 200s in my basically standard 172.

Although ill admit they are a far nicer place to be.

way way off track you have gone! Clio V6's look like p**n, 200's do not.

point is 5 turbo- quick and light

16v- light and quick

1*2- light and quick

197/200- not light, not really quick- Renault lost the fun factor when they made the 197/200 IMO

That's your opinion.

Having owned both 172 and 200, my opinion is that the 200 is much more fun than the 172 ever was.

I agree.

A more highly strung version of the same engine in a heavier and larger body mean they're always going to suffer fuel wise...so for me, the performance just about warrants the worse fuel economy.

If you can't ever get to use the performance though (i.e. your commute is stuck in traffic), they cost a ridiculous amount to run for what you get in return.

agree with that but there is more cars on the roads today than ever before so 9/10 times you will be stuck in traffic in 1

What reg is yours??

I have owned 2 200s and the first (09) saw the other side of 36 on most trips out but i current 200 (12) wont go above 28 on average drive out. They made some small changes to the engine at some point.

The V6 is a lot more special than the 1*2's whereas the 197/200 isn't.

1*2's would do the same at 80+ lol.

Thats not mixed though..

If i sit at 60 in the 172 i can get at least 45mpg.

Why does it have to be mixed?..

this is what I'm getting at, people moaning about mpg. IT COMPLETELY DEPENDS ON YOUR COMMUTE/ROADS

and I said 60+, not sat at 60.

any car is going to be s**t on fuel if your sat stop/start.

Thank god I'm not, and I make the most of what Renault had the car made for. Driven on B roads.

  Turbo LY R27
The 182's don't read accurately, they say average of 41mpg on the motorway but in reality when it's worked out its 36 at best! Best I've had in my 182 is 380 miles to a tank, in my 197 it's was 420 on the old style gearbox (both mainly long runs).

  Clio 200
I have a 200 and it averages 27.4 according to the trip. That's with mixed driving and the odd blast now and then.

If driven at 60/70 mph on motorways/b roads then you'll easily get 33 - 34 mpg no probs:)

  clio 200
my daily trip is through 30mph villages and 60mph b roads and im averaging 34mpg, but you know what. Im affraid i didnt buy a 200 for its fuel economy!

I've bin trying to be careful in the 200 at the mo driving at 60/70 I still can't get over 29mpg. After a week of being careful I've started to drive normal again. 200's are crap on fuel may as well drive it as it was meant to be and enjoy it.

True story, just enjoy it. All the people getting great economy from their Mk3 sport are either liars or complete fannies.

this is not the case, I was sat in London traffic last week for going on 3 hours solid, 27MPG was my lowest!!

The computer in mine under-reads. Getting 33mpg calculated now, off to a certain german toll road on monday so hoping for lower ;)

  Monaco172, R27 197
Getting 33mpg max out of my R27, but just put my 172 back on road would get 40mpg out of that if could drive it sensibly but it is like driving a kart so much fun,oh how I have missed it. Like being 18 again trouble is I am double that and and add a lot more. Who cares about mpg it's all about the grin factor "Yes"

I drove my Megane today to Leicester and back and got this:

uploadfromtaptalk1379190838036.jpg

It's a 2.0T petrol also not diesel. How did they get the 197 so wrong because its not even fast!

I love how people say 'they're not even fast'

same pace as a standard golf r32 3.2 v6! Golf cost double on tax and is 1000X times worse on fuel

That's because they're not and the fuel consumption does not represent the cars pace. The 200 is the car the 197 should've been from the start... night and day difference imo
