1999 1.4 RT

  clio II 1.4 RT
Just got the above clio for my first car. and it seems to have developed a problem. such that when started it will run fine for 5 seconds then starts to "missfire"

When applying the throttle it wont respond and when it does it revvs.

The car has no power such that the car wil barely pull on a level surface.

I removed the air cleaner and such and saw that the vacum hose going to the FPR was badly worn so that it was not given any vacum to the FPR

So i replaced this but still no joy.

Have checked the coil packs and they all seem to be getting the stated resistance through each terminal.

It has left me stumped.

I changed the fuel filter incase the old one was blocked but still no better.

I am no relying on some information form you guys before i have to venture into a garage with it.

Long first thread sorry.:rasp:

Thanks
Stuart

i also forgot to mention that it literally happened instantly. in the sense that parked the car up then came back in it was like this.

Would unplugging the sensor let me see if it was this ie unplugged = run better?

Thanks

You could try it but I have no idea to be honest I just know of someone that had this issue. They took it to Renault who diagnosed to oxygen sensor fault and replaced it at a cost of around £200 if I remeber correctly.

ok thanks i think the next step would possibly be having it put on the dianostics.

any other ideas out there?

Thanks

try the lambda. If you unplug it the ECU will go to a backup map, if it runs better on that then it is the lambda thats bad (oxygen sensor)

Ok will give this ago we already tried it but that was before i discovered the hole in the vacum pipe to the FPR.

How do i reset the ECU so it doesnt run on the backup map?

Thanks

Will try that aswell. it gives a reading on the gauge in the car though?

well so far it has had a new fuel filter, leads, plugs air filter and the hole in the FPR vacum pipe sorted.

Tried unplugging the lambda sensor with no joy.

The car back fires really badly through the inlet.

Any more ideas?

Thanks

forgot to mention that for some reason i crimped the vacum hose running to the MAP sensor and the engine run better for a few seconds before returning to a rough running performance.

Doing this pulled up th ECU light as expected. but could the MAP sensor make the car run this poorly?

Thank

Change the CTS and see what happens. Does it do it when the car is hot? I.e, in the morning it'll be ok for a couple of minutes?

the car will only run fine for a maximum of 5-10seconds.

Then it starts to "miss" so its not even like the CTS is getting to the point where it can put the system into closed loop.

The car will run marginly better but still miss if i put the car into limp mode by pinching the vacum hose going in to the MAP sensor. it revs a little without missing by itself then settles down.....but then starts to miss again.

Thanks

Stuart
