1st & 2nd knocking

  CLIO 172 CUP....
*TRANSLATION*

Hello there chaps, i have a Clio 172 cup which i have owned for a month or so and i love it!

It seems to be knocking as i change gear especially in 1st & 2nd gear. I'm aware of some common faults with these Clio's.
Anyway, i went to Renault and they want alot of money to replace the dog bone mount, i am expecting this to solve the problem.

Does anyone know a specialist to me who could do this "fix" at a more reasonable price? Could you confirm that this is definitely the problem?

On a side note i have read that some Clio's have had the cam-belt replaced incorrectly, causing timing issues. Is this correct?
How would i check that mine has been fitted correctly?

Thank you.

hi ther peaple, i have a clio 172 cup witch i have now owned for around month or so and love it but in seems to be knocking as i change gear..like in (1st) & (2scd) gear now i no thes are common faults with these clios. any way i whent to renault and thay are wonting alot of money just for (dogbone mount) witch i am hoping is gonna sort out this knocking problem out as it really starting to do my f**king head in it just make the car feel so s**t to drive..also i have seen about peaple post saying if the cam belt has not been done properly useing the right renault looking tools then timing more than liky be out so is the any way of me telling if timeing is 100% spot on as am i right to belive if it not loss of performance i could be lossing here. and i dont wont to f**k up the engine later on in life cause i no wont peaple are like for geting these back street garage to do the job for chep money....

Re: 1st & 2scd knocking

Where are you based?

If it's knocking at high revs, 90% it'll be the engine mounts..

Put your hands on the throttle body, and on the inlet, and rock the engine. If it moves about too much, they're goosed.

I think a dictionary and spell checker should correct your most serious problems ;)

Re: 1st & 2scd knocking

If you want the timing proper checked, give JMS an email.

Best way to test it, is get someone who knows the cars to come out for a quick drive. If the timing's out, they'll probably notice.

Re: 1st & 2scd knocking

That was f*cking hard to read. Really.

It's definitely a mount issue, I reckon.

There's three. Dogbone, which is under the 'box. Gearbox mount, which is under your battery. And the main mount forms part of your cambelt cover.

Grab the engine at the back of the coil pack and rock it. Or try it in first, lightly coming on and off the throttle.

Re: 1st & 2scd knocking

chrisetopher...yeah tryed all the little things you and (budgie) said and yes it defo the mounts (f**k). but do i have to change all three of them or will the (dogbone) just do sort it from knocking. reason im saying can i just change the (dogbone mount) is when i had my punto hgt it was doing the same thing knocking in (1st) & (2scd) so i just replace the (dogbon mounte) and it sorted it out..just wondering if it would be the same for the clio cause all three cant of f**ked up would thay....

Not been around here for long so feel a bit of a div giving advice, But.

My 172 was knocking under hard excelleration. 1st and 2nd, really bad in 1st. anyway, I removed the battery, slackened the nuts on the engine mount below the battery, Pulled the engine forward by hand. Dont go mad here, and tighten the bolts . Agai, dont go mad on the mount bolts, not sure what the tourque settings are meant to be but its a cast allow mount so overtightening could couse it to crack maybe.

I was suprised how loose the bolts were when did mine, i pulled the ungine around 5mm on the mount holes, you can easily see how much from the dirty marks left when you move the mount.

Anyway, the result is no more knocking.

This also works quite often. Top advice for a n00b. (;
