2,800rpm when starting engine.

  Ph1 1.2
Havnt driven my clio for a long time, as ive been away, so its been sitting not doing alot..

Today i started her up and the revs went through the roof, usually it will just tick over at like 800rpm, but it went straight to 2,000rpm and increased to almost 3,000.. just sitting there doing nothing!

i tried it 2 or 3 times after and the same thing happened..

I was wondering if this is common or not, and also how it can be resolved?

Thanks, Luke.

What engine?

Guessing a smaller one, gonna be a sticking idle speed control valve on back of inlet manifold, tap with a spanner will prove a point. They can be cleaned but prob do it again, may need a new one
