2004 1.2 coil pack issues

  Clio 1.2, vw polo g40
i have already been through 6 coil packs in two years. reluctantly i keep buying them and i had to purchase one no more than a week ago and this one is damaged as well now. i do cover alot of miles, aprrox 35k a year. some of the coil packs have been broken through water damage and some coils have definitely not been damaged by water.

it's had a new ECU installed when the vehicle was nearly three years old and i know that the fault must be electrical and the ECU might be part of the problem. i was wondering if anybody has had any similar problems and any possible solutions?

thanks

nick

i forgot to mention that the coil pack and emissions signals have been illuminated on the instrument panel.

god that's unlucky!!, mines went once, and now im getting the light on again sometimes when i go up curbs ect, i think its a deffrent thing this time, hoping its just the sensor at the top left of the engine..... surely your's can't be the coil pack again??

Dave..

yeah i was wondering whether the lambda sensor's gone, this will make sense because then the ECU will r****d or advance the timing of the spark thus putting more pressure on the coil pack.

that is only a stab in the dark though! and there are many other reasons that could cause this.

Dave, is it your emissions light turning on when you go up curbs or the coil light?

coil light, and it limits to 3K, the sensor is very wobely tbh, since i fiddled with it the problem is only every couple of days for like 10 seconds when i hit big bump, so im guessing its that, just going to wait for someone to crash there 1.2 so i can rob there sensor :D

no mine doesn't limit it to 3K but it revs very slowly and obviously barely any power. what sensor is wobbly?

You pair have different engione setups, Drobbly I'm guessing yours is caused by worn wiring caused by the block behind the engine.

V-Dubb is it just an solid illuminated light, or is it flashing?

no it stays on constantly. it happened twice today, first time i could turn the engine off and turn it on again and it was fine, then second time i tried the turning the engine off and then on again and it didn't work. had to drive home with barely no power. i need it sorted coz it's ruining the cat with the high temps apparently(it has been smelling eggy recently)
