2004 182 Cup RB

  2004 RB182 Cup
Hi,

Since being filled with regret ever since I sold my 172 cup, I decided that when this 2004 RB Cup came up for a very reasonable price, I had to buy it. There is 129k miles on it and is otherwise standard apart from a Ktec decat and backbox. There is a power steering leak from the hose and a lazy starter motor. Both of which will be easy fixes. If anyone has either of these bits please send me a PM. Here are some photos, sorry for the poor quality.

Yeah, it seems to be. The wheels are 17s so they'll be going and a set of standard 16s put back on . Always wanted an RB. Has to be the best colour!

Been a while since I updated. Turns out the issue wasnt with the starter motor. It was a poor earth onto the chassis from the battery. Fixed this and it's starting well now. Also replaced the turinis with standard 182 alloys yesterday just after taking these pictures. Unfortunately someone had put 215 section tyres on them so on the hunt for some 195 or 205s.
Next on the list are some fog lights, left inner tie rod and track rod end and source and fit a cat for MOT. If anyone has one please let me know. Heres a couple of pictures I took yesterday.

Wife's mini is off the road at the moment so shes using my Megane daily. This means the 182 has become my daily and it's been a revelation. Makes more sense actually using and enjoying the car, rather than it being a garage ornament. Recently I've put standard cup springs back in and fitted standard alloys. Unfortunately they are fitted with 215/45/16 tyres so I've a few 195s to throw on. Heres a few pictures of a very dirty RB.

After having my ears bleed every time I was in the clio with the unresonated ktec with decat I made the decision to try and get a resonated pipe. Unfortunately I couldn't find one, fortunately a friend sho runs his own exhaust business said he would sort it for me. First, here's how the car sounded with the unresonated pipe.

Very loud and had a horrible drone. The backbox mounts where totally f**ked also, someone had tried to bodge them with cable ties etc

Leaving the backbox looking like this

Here is a very dirty RB on the lift

The current set up underneath. My ears hurt just looking at it!

Shiny new parts

Pipe cut, silencer flared, installed and welded. He used specshield gas and with both parts being stainless the welds were lovely. Fitted

New mounts installed at the rear

Which left the backbox sitting alot nicer

The difference in noise is excellent. It still sounds sporty but it's no longer embarrassingly loud. Here's a short clip

Probably the best thing I've done to the car so far! Next will be a sportscat as MOT is coming up quite soon.

I need to do the exact same thing with my exhaust add a silencer as it’s stupidly loud, how much was it mate just out of interest

Budget about £100 inc labour if you're using a decent silencer. Think there is cheaper options on Ebay however. Its night and day difference and worth every panel. Can actually have a conversation in the car now at 70mph!

Haha I no that feeling, I only use mine really on track but driving to the circuit I don’t go over 60 just because of the noise, and any passengers whilst I’m on track we know not to talk lol thanks mate it’s on the top of my list to do over winter

Another day off today, inner rack end fitted along with new track rod end. This has totally transformed the driving of the car. The inner was very worn and was making the car wander over the road on heavy acceleration or braking.
I also fitted a new CV boot as the old one was pissing grease everywhere. While I had the wheel off I noticed it was rather dirty around the chassis and arch liners so took it outside, soaked in TFR and hit it with the power hose.

No point doing things by half so I also done the back.

Then following on from some inspiration from @rik220 I removed the side skirts to inspect the sills. They were grand but I gave them a good soak of TFR then a rinse anyway.

Some absolute pellet has crimped the jacking points at some stage so I was expecting the worst but everything is solid.
After putting the sills back on I gave the car a much needed and deserved wash

I then decided to remove the tacky stickers from the doors and bottom of rear quarters. Much cleaner looking now.

This car has really got under my skin the last couple of weeks with using it so much. Can't imagine what you could buy for the same money that would give you the same grin factor. It's just so eager and involving to drive.

@TRB182

What size centre silencer did you have installed mate? gives me a better idea of what to order myself.

I'll measure up to double check before ordering something, but i'm looking at either 4" or 5" diameter, and either 14" or 18" long. Leaner more towards 4" and 14" long

Cheers

This is 5 inch diameter and around 14" long. It's made a huge difference.
