2nd battery or power cap

Hi guys, im doing a new install and am using *all* of my boot for 2 big sub boxes. I was originally going to put a second battery in the boot with a split-charge relay however there is no room!! would a powercap be as effective - (ill be using a huge amp). Will also be running another 2 amps for front and rear components...

cheers

Optima yellow top! Im running a coupla monster subs off one of these. No need for a power cap or a 2nd battery. You can get one for £176.25 from Five Star in River Road, Barking, Essex 0208 594 7921. Bargain. Halfords wanted nearly £240 quid to get one (

How powerful is your amp and sub, and what ohmage will you be running them at?

Yellow top will run them no problem. Im running fours amps on my yellow top, and two of them are twice the power of what you are running. Make sure you definitely get a yellow top, not a red top. Red top is just a heavy duty battery, the yellow top is deep cycle (solid as a rock, can be left for ages and the car will start first time and quick to recharge itself).

also look at the multima exxide, deep cycle with more cycles guaranteed than a yellow top, but might be more difficult to fit....

I would agree with Malice. There are better deep cycle batteries out there for the money these days. Some have a CCA of 1500 which is perfect for very heavy duty installs.

I actually use 3 Optimas and they are great but only if bought for the right price.

Shopping around is the key here.

ok well for now i will put better earths on the battery and altenator... this should make it a little better till i can afford the yellow top!. thanks for your help guys...

for a power cap to power that your looking at £150 anyway... a .5 farad cap will do no good...i just got my cap fitted and it makes a difference, running a 1000w amp
