360 three rd lights (not the normal question)

I bought my xbox from Woolworths in 2007, it now has three red rings and the drive sounds like it is grinding (it was never quiet, but it sounds bad now).

Is my only option to send it off to Microsoft? Did anyone take over any of the Woolies shops or did the whole thing fold?

It'll take ages if I need to send it off to Microsoft

Its your only option apart from buying a new one! (which many people do!)

Think it's repairable if you want to do it yourself. I'd do it myself if it happened to me.

If it was me i would send it back, means if it dies again and you are forced to send it back, they wont reject it because the warrenty sticker is broke, Just send it back and thay will repair it, ive done it twice now

EDIT - Mine took about a week and a half to go away and come nack and you can track it with UPS site

Prob just send it back if it only takes a week. I think the 3 red rings warranty was extended to three years, so should be ok, unless it is a relatively easy fix then might be able to sort it sooner.

Yes mate it was extended by 3 years, mine was out of warrenty but then remembered the 3 years continued and its such a doddle to send it back, just send it back and they wont reject it either

Mine was doing that and last nite i rapped it in towels to heat it up because my brothers mate said it worked on his and then i realalised i hadnt turned it on so opened up the towels and turned it on and it worked :S Id try the towel trick tho because it wont void warrenty as it hasnt been opened

towel trick is wreaks your system an the trick is NOT for problems with drive units

Dont do the towel trick, the amount of people i know that have fucked it because of it, all it does is over heat wiping its logs, so when it turns on, it dont remember it having a fault when it last booted so wont red light, and it also melts the solder on the motherboard causing many more problems.

Never do the towel trick, its for people who think they know what they are doing

Sorry I didn't read about the drive noise grinding. I would send it back to MS.

Otherwise you just need this kit, and some Torx 'drivers.

came back in 8 days with the red lights gone and a new dvd drive:approve:

yeah i think they always replace the dvd drive when its in for repair, even if that wasnt the fault

Yuo can also buy one from tescos whilst yours is away as they do a 28 day money back guarantee even if the box has been opened. So play it until you get yours back then take the Tesco one back and get a refund.

Am I right in thinking that if I bought a brand new xbox 360, the RROD fault has been resolved or would I still expect to get it?

After me twisting about wanting to get it done quickly, I didn't get round to registering it for repair until late last week. It was picked up on Tuesday.

Anyway, microsoft site says it has been posted back (it was showing as "repair in progress" yesterday).

Hopefully get it back Monday or Tuesday, which I think is a great service.

Better than the service Sony give for the yellow light.

Xbox came back yesterday. Was returned 6days after it was picked up.

Also received one months free xbox live. Halo3 tomight to celebrate (although I don't have Halo3 ODST, or OSDT yet).
