51.6 miles to the gallon!!!

i just cant believe it! i plumbed my crank case breather back into the induction elbow yesterday as its just been hanging down for months, went out today round teesdale valley having a fun drive out wasnt caning it just nice and steady i managed to achieve 51.6mpg i went to take a pic to find my d900 screen was cracked! well gutted but happy at the same time so not only can i reel in 172 cups i can get amazing fuel consumption aswell... the hybrid is still amazing me!

btw its a mk2 ph2 dynamique with a 172 conversion and i have no airbags as standard no abs and a sunroof!

yes average mpg was 51.6 i was yelling at the gf to take a pic on her razor but she was whining going "the suns shing on it!" i dont care take a picture my previous record was 45.4 im still stonked how i got 51.6 and no its not a dci but i heard average diesel is like 55 so its almost entering diesel territory, whether people believe me but i wouldnt come on here just to make up a lie i just wondered if anyone else has beaten that.

also my gf's brothers is thinking getting a 172 in a few weeks and was worried about petrol i think this will let him sleep at night

did i wee trip yesterday as was getting av of 42/43 mpg and was well pleased at that. but i was driving very very conservitivly.

tbh though i never viewed the 172 as a cruser but i was having a very comfy time at just under 70 all the way. This car continues to impress me. love it!


i have had 99.9mpg but thats cheeting by reseting the gauge when freewheeling down hill.

If I reset my trip while I'm coasting at 40mph in 5th gear and wait til it updates, it says 57mpg. PWNED!

If I do that (5th gear, foot off down a hill) I get 99.9 mpg. It said I had about 4,000 miles worth of petrol left lol. Only had 1/3 of a tank too. But that's cheating!


51.6 mpg? Doing well there. I once managed 52mpg for a 70 mile trip across Wales. I was feeling quite ill so I was driving like a granny. In your lighter 'hybrid', I reckon you could do slightly more mpg still.

well i did just over 60 mile trip out so its quite a distance but not loads and i was in 5th most of it but i mean some of it i had to drop it down to 3rd coz the hills were really really steep, and as to reply to above you can get an elbow which allows you to connect the crank case breather to the elbow from hillpower see www.hillpower.co.uk

the lowest ive actually got it was 18.7mpg but the clock had just been reset and soon as it was warm i was nailing it alot, and i havent came on to brag i came on to state what its achieved because i think it shows you can have performance and good petrol usage

My 100,000 mile 51 plate 172 does 40mpg on my way to work, i actually find it is better on fuel if i dont use 5th lol, steady 40ish in 4th, loves it

Diesel will do 55mpg if you treat it hard. I get 50~55 on a long run and I don't drive with much care or love.

80 is easy with care.
