-60mm Apex Kit Or Coilovers

Hello

I currently have -60mm PI springs which has become bouncy!
-60mm and below is what I want, -40mm is just not an option for me.
Anyhow what would you recommend? Coilovers or the -60mm Apex kit?

What advantages does one have other the other and how does the ride and handling compare?

Input from people with the kit and coils appreciated and somebody who has had both would be great.

Well as far as i know im the only one with the -60mm Apex kit fitted at the moment. The kit is superb, totally different car to drive with the gas shocks etc, but if you have the cash and are planning on keeping the car for a while get coilovers! The Apex kit is around half the price of coilovers.

What does it look compared to the PI springs? I cant bare to be 1mm higher! lol!

Can anyone comment on the ride of coilovers lowered around -70mm?

Ive got an RSX Coilover Apex kit on my Clio and the drop is upto 70mm front and 60mm rear. However if you wanted you can lower the front at least another 40mm as there plently of thread left in the coilover.

Im not sure what other companies coilover lower but I would dought they lower the rear more than 60 as it innt to good as the spring is quite small for a 60mm drop therefore hard.

As for the front well Im not sure what the 60mm normal kit is like but Id imagine it is a lot harder than the coilover kit which alloys you to go 10mm lower.

But since Fred is is only 10mm lower at the front on his "100mm" custom springs and another 40 at the back and the rids is apparently "hard" Id question than value of another 10mm or so if you drive any distance.

Personly Id say for got coilovers either FK, H and R or Apex adjustable ones.

What is the ride like with coilovers? I do about 45miles a day.

I would like to go at least -10,, mor at the back as Im on -60mm now.

I know Fred Im very suprised as well seeing how low your car is.

Its going lower as the springs havnt settled and theres still about 4cm of coil left to lower on but at the moment its 315mm at the front and 305mm at the back.

The minimum "allowed" figures according to the paperwork say 300mm front and 300mm red which is supposed to be 70mm front and 60mm back.

I have to say its no way that much lower though that it was before maybe 4~5cm but then agin my suspension had had a hard life so maybe it was natually low. But compaired to my mates 1.2 authentic its only about 4cm lower as well.

Ive got 3.75 inch space under the front splitter. which will go down to about 3inch when the springs have settled and Ive lowere it to the maximum supposidly allowed.

High rider Fred it it I was hoping for you not to notice this thread and Id post some pics in a few weeks time.

The rear springs/ dampers are a bit hard for my delicate constitution and there on a very low setting so I dont think Ill be getting any custom springs for the back. However seeing the price for new spring has made me think all I need is more than 10mm and Ibe be as low as you.

I havnt caught the splitter or had any rubbing yet but I am on stock tyres.

You cannot but normal Coilover which lower the back more than 60 or so I dont think you need custom springs not sure what spec the back are but new front springs would seem to be quite cheap judging by the Demon Tweeks racing catalogue.

I do about 50 miles a day in my car and as I said above the suspension at the back particularly is a bit to hard for my person taste but Im going to have another mess with the dampers. I prefere the old springs at the back for comfort but the front isnt that bad and Im quite happy with that.

What setup do you have now? 60mm normal dampers + spings to coilovers wont feel much different IMO and for the price you wont gain that much.

Your welcome to go for a drive in my car if you want (Im in the north west/ Wales)

Yep, IMO the ride will be much better on different dampers along with shocks or coilovers.

The Apex RSX coilover kit could go lower than Freds car (as far as I can tell) as theres that much spare in the coil to wind down.

But the problem is more at the back any more than 60mm will be very uncomfortable in my view and if you lower the front more than 60 and the back stays 60mm then it will look unusual if you catch my drift.

Coilover though IMO are much better than just dampers and springs.

FK, H and R or Apex. there are members on here who have each one and will be able to tell you what there like.

i do 20K a year on a proper low rider

im on 290mm front and 260mm rear (winter higher setup!!!!)

You guys are crazy....stupidly low cars do my head in always scared of bottoming out or taking the front bumper off when Im caning down a bumpy road...think Ill stick to 35mm! Oh and coilovers all the way Gee, Ive got Gaz on mine and they are very good.

nowt wrong with low cars, if theyre set up properly the wont bottom out (much!!) they just crack front wings!!!

Ive got h+r coilovers on mine and its lower now than it was with the -40mm apex springs and the ride is miles better now than it was before handling is in a different league aswell. coilovers are the way to go if u can afford it

Sorry for being stupid, but do coils not replace dampers? Sorry.

The APEX kit replaces ur springs and shocks? or is it dampers too?

Coilovers are just normal uprated dampers but the seat for the spring to sit on can be moved up and down.

Coilovers for Clios only work at the front due to the design of the rear setup.

Coilovers are just different springs and dampers but the front dampers have adjustable height seats. since the seats are able to be lowered the car can be lowered further.
