72k service prices. Ouch!

Hi all,

I'm new here but have been ringing around the dealers for a quote for a 72k service. This includes the cost of changing the timing belt which apparently is a 6 hour job! Prices quoted are for a 172 Cup. Garages are in Lancashire area. Prices quoted on 22/02/07.

Sunwin Renault Preston - £1192.00 (service and timing belt change).

Sunwin Renault Blackpool - Service £406.00 Timing Belt £751.40 = £1157.40.

Clock Garage Chorley - Service £352.00 Timing Belt £584.00 = £936.00.

I take it these prices are typical???

Those prices are typical of a Dealer to be honest, goto a specialist theres a fair few throughout the country.

Where do you live? I reckon about £600 is a fair price.

How much will a specialist charge? Are there any in Lancashire?

Timing belt? That another name for the cam belt? Renault quoted me about £400 to change mine, much cheaper than you've been quoted.

Didn't go to Renault in the end.

Yeah, I call it a cambelt but the dealers have referred to it as a timing belt. I think it is the same thing.
