Who's on MaxDSL then?

I finally broke the shackles with hell-net, and moved elsewhere and straight onto MaxDSL.

I'm currently synced at 8128/448, but I'm not expecting it to stay that way as my current SNR margin is 6db (apparently the target level by BT), but overnight (as normal) dropped to between 3 to 0!

To be fair though, it hasn't actually dropped the connection though, I'm still on the same session I was yesterday and there appears to be very little in the way of errors.

What's more amazing is that I'm 2.5Km away from the exchange, so wasn't expecting my initial sync to be somewhere in the region of 5 to 6 Mbit.

Overall so far, pretty impressed, not had any of the problems (yet) that people have been bleating on about with it. Time will tell though.

PlusNet are jokers, I was with them for 10 months prior to them implementing their infamous 'bad boy pipe' (no i wasn't a badboy) but i left of principle and stated i was no longer in support of their changed T&C and they let me go on my way. Then moved to F2S who were great until they too started screwing around with traffic shaping, port blocking and numerous other tricks of the trade to shaft their customers over, again i left.

Currently im with Newnet who for now are fantastic, moved onto MaxDSL last week and most of the time i see speeds of 4-5mbit peak hours and 5+mbit off-peak.

MaxDSL takes upto 3 days for BT to fully build your profile in terms of usage/speed/stability/snr so for the first 3 days it will vary while it try's to find the highest possible stable/reliable speed to operate on. However a lot of people are complaining of 2mbit speeds or less during this time, but it normally rectifies itself shortly after.

funny they just changed my connection to new house and my router says

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8128 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 20 db 5 db
Noise Margin 14 db 27 db

still only getting 2mbit tho grr will have to call them

Give it a few hours. It's because BT Wholesale need to acknowledge you're now on 8mb IPStream and update the data rate on their BRAS system.

ah i love you griff god of everything that is adsl :D

must admit its now actually performing as 2mbit unlike at the old house speed test was usually less than 900k now its been 1800+

I have Wanadoo here, might not be the best but I must admit I've had no problems whatsoever with 8Mb downloads...
Even after I've tipped my 30Gb limit ;)

Yeah, like griff said, BT wholesale have currently got an issue with it selecting the wrong profile, they've got a temporary fix but it might take 72 hours for it to kick in.

When I first connected yesterday I was getting the full upload but download was limited to 2mbit, when I got back from my friends it was no longer limited to this. :)

Damn you!

When I was in Australia at christmas my mate had broadband (LLU stylee) installed, he basically lives next door to the exchange, 24 Mbit...grr!

He was loving the fact that he could download top gear episodes faster than he could watch them!
