Evening, fired up with Dave this evening to see Fraser going round KH tonight and see a few of the other sexy people.

Firstly I will state I'm a proper beginner with a camera thats more advanced than point and shoot so I'm putting these up partly so folk can see them and partly so folk can guide me how to do better as I know some are fairly poor. Really struggled with a very low bright sun and then basically darkness towards the end!

Flickr > Photobucket.

Check pics on flickr from track days and look at the settings used to get the pictures then set your camera to do the same.

That's how I learned.

You're not wrong Stevo, the pics of them braking for the hairpin I was literally shaking with the cold!

Aye I will do Wayne, just quickly though whats the way to improve the dark shots of a moving car? Or is that just not going to happen without using my tripod?

depends on what mode your using mate could always meet up with you sometime and explain a few things if you want then a can explain it then?

Im no where near a expert but can try pass on a bit of knowledge

Good shout Adam, I'll do that.

Aye Wayne cheers, may well bend your ear next time I see you. Just gonna keep practising, like I said tonight, its the second time I've used it and the first in those conditions as well as the first time shooting moving cars!

Check out some settings and apply to your camera. Shoot manual and move one thing at a time. If you shoot in Av or Tv, it'll try to take a perfectly formed image which is the last thing you want with moving objects.

Mk2 Escort looks mean!

If your camera has an AE Servo lock you can use that for the fast moving cars,
I have that on my Canon 5D, once you focus lock on the car it will automatically adjust the focus as the target moves,
you can get the blurred background that signifies speed, whilst the cars will be in focus.

The best thing you can do with a DSLR is read the manual, I still refer to mine every now and again,
DSLRs have too many functions to remember them all.

Great thanks TEG, I will do.

Dave, I meant to take the manual with me but then was in a bit of a rush and nearly forgot the camera never mind the manual! But I'm pretty sure it does have AE Lock, I'll look into it more.

Time Wayne? Sorry, I'm not sure I remember what that is ;) Very kind offer though, thanks

Not AE lock ... Auto-focus servo mode... find the 'drive' button and it'll probably be under that setting.

I thought it would show up in my exif but it does not .. you can practise standing on the side of the road ;)

Got Auto Servo, Single Servo, Continuous Servo and Manual focus, I had it set on Continuous but I guess Single would be the equivalent of lock yeah? Or do I just not have it?

I'd imagine continuous or auto servo would be the one, I tested mine out on the dog when I was down the park,
basically try them all until you find the one that continually changes focus on a moving object.

Dogs/kids/mates running/cars on the motorway etc.

Nice pictures the one with the glowing brakes on the GTR is , it past me like a bullet coming out of the hairpin.
The red MK2 escort was stunning and sounded crazy on track.
