Bit of a shitter of a situation I'm in atm the car suffered really bad with fuel starvation at Mallory, not the end I the world a swirl pot set up would sort that. But recently the cars been drinking water quicker than a thirsty eithiopian child ala headgasket failure. My plan with the car was to do fcs and the hour on track and one or two more track days through the summer then take it off the road and sort the engine bay build a new engine new brakes etc and underseal it. But now with the headgasket gone I'm not really wanting to fix it just for a hour at donnington, that's money I can use for what I have planed. So Its looking like I'll be using the clio on track not my ideal car to be using as its my daily and it just doesn't get used like the rallye and the fact I've spent so long building the rallye to what it is for the track. Today i got started on stripping it down im not rushing this and im actually quite excited as this will be the finishing touches to the car that i always felt let it down. so whilst ive still got alot to do and spend its the start of finishing it off. the second chapter if you will.
A couple weeks back i painted the drums and calipers as they were previously red and im not a fan of standard brakes done red, they aint brembos so stop trying imo. with the steelies the faded dirty red didnt show through but now with turinis the let the car down. nice clean and most importantly black.
The headgasket had gone at the front of the block just above the alternator and you can see that it had been loosing quite abit of coolant.
Today we moved some cars about so i could get it to the top of the drive where working on it was going to be easiest.
This is its new home until i get it back built up and rolling again you can see i already started labelling the loom up so i know whats what.
and this is how todays finished not massive amounts of progress but i had been doing other jobs clearing a outside cubard out for a place to stoor all the rallyes bits.
the plan now is to remove pretty much everything and leave just a shell. the whole underside will be stripped and under sealed. everything in the bay will be removed ready for rust removal paint etc.
Ive got a lot to buy i wont list it all as it'll be too long.
Ive got a choice to make with the engine as well. do i do a high comp build with more head work and standalone ecu to get more power.
or
do i build a fresh 16v, no massive mods just stick my cams in maybe a little head work lightweight flywheel, standalone ecu and my bodies. That should give me a little more power than i already have and be the cheaper of the two options.
power wise i was happy with what i had but a little more isnt a bad thing. itd just mean more money and longer off the road....
