Please stop posting photos, it just makes me want something I can't afford lol. There are two that I know of in the NW, plus two with Joshydee in Doncaster, yours and Middo's. Can't think if anyone else has one.

riads got 3k for his first car, hmmmmmm

no naithan stop it. id be driving it more than him, alas first driver....

Give him mine and buy me one ftw. Drive it all you want. :p

Edit: Insurance would be killer for Riad surely? I can't get it for less than 3k at the mo.

Seem to remember somebody else having one who also had a silver ph1, could be getting confused though.

Rarer than a Liquid so if you find a good one expect to pay for it!!!

Exact numbers in the link under sales data and colour but i expect theres even less now - http://www.renaultsport.co.uk/roadcars/heritage/172/

31 of them and they tend to sell for about £2,500 now.

:) Plus Couzens non-RS if he decides to go Sunflower with it. Joshydee seems to be doing quite a good job of bringing them back from the scrapyards.

Middo has/had a gorgeous one iirc

:) Love his car.

Ian, personally i think 2.5k would be an insult to one such as Craig172's if its anything in the flesh like what it looks like in the picture....I can understand broken and repaired ones going for that but real top notch ones!? I cant see it myself!

They are what 10 years old? No more surely yet when i was buying a less rare 10 year old M/N plated valver back in the day they were 3k and upward for spotless ones even then!

I was looking at Pug 106's GTI's in Sundance not so long ago and even they are valued mostly at 3k and upwards and they were mostly modified shitters......I think i need to find me a Sunflower! ;)

My plan is to get one of these once i sell my 182 at the beginning of summer.

Yeah I agree Jay, something like Craig's would never go for £2,500, but that's a minter and has the 16" f1's etc. But of the 4 I've enquired about Hayley's was low mileage and cost less than £2,500. Admittedly it needs a new exhaust and rear lights, but even so. Benji's was around £2,500 and the two that Josh has should sell for less as they are cat-C and -D.

They will demand a premium because of their rarity, but sometimes people don't realise quite how rare they are, after all a 10 year old yellow car isn't usually that desirable! They're like a hidden Gem. All I know is the sooner I can get one the better! :)

Rarest of the bunch 31 ever made

I dare say thats less than 25 left and less than 15 straight examples left.

Would swap my Iceberg Phase 1 for one tomorrow!

I recently bought this yellow phase 1, came accoss it by chance after the cup I went to look at was a pig, stopped to see it on the way home and left a deposit there and then.

Nice. Good to see there's another one still surviving. :) Thinking about it, they must only be rare as nobody wanted the colour at the time, lol.

If I ever win the lottery I may buy all sunflower ph1's, just for the hell of it. It would be like Gone in 60 Seconds, but legal and slightly lower budget. Would look awesome though.

Aye that will be one of Josh's in Doncaster.. good luck to him with it, if it sells at that price he's on to a winner! Sounds like I won't be able to afford the Cat-d then.

Category A Insurance Write Off - the vehicle must scrapped and no parts or components can be sold other than for scrap. Amounts vary but the scrap value rarely covers the cost of recovery and delivery to a scrap yard.

Category B Insurance Write Off - the vehicle must not be used again but non- structural and roadworthy parts and components may be recovered for use in other vehicles. Care must be taken to ensure that they are not critical components with important safety functions.

Category C Insurance Write Off - the vehicle is repairable but the parts and labour would exceed the value of the car. This is a tricky situation as there are plenty of amateur and professional mechanics who could use second hand parts to repair these vehicles at much lower prices than the list costs for parts and labour.

Category D Insurance Write Off - the vehicle is economically repairable but other factors are involved that cause the insurer to declare the vehicle a write off. Perhaps the replacement car hire is too costly or it will take too long for a specialist part to be delivered.

Category X Insurance Write Off - the vehicle is easily repairable and may even be still roadworthy.

Unrecorded Insurance Write Off - the vehicle damage was not reported to the insurer or the driver was uninsured. The most common example is drivers who only have third party insurance but have had an accident that was their fault (usually not involving anyone else).

Either that or it couldve been a silly expensive option!? Liquid and Petrol for the 182 was a 1500 quid option alone probably hence there low figures also!

Also a possibility that Sunflower wasn't actually an option and only a certain amount were given to the UK in the first place!?

Yeah both possibilities and I don't know for sure either way. I was just going off the heritage site which lists it as one of the colour options in the model information.

  Ph1
Sunflower yellow on the Ph1 172's was a 'normal' colour option not limited , not a extra cost option or anything special.

The only special limited ph1 was the Exclusive which was something as little as a extra 300 quid

Theres another one for sale here http://pistonheads.co.uk/sales/988589.htm

£2650 for a cat C though!

yeh that one is mine, have another currently been repaired, same colour, the other one is a cat D though. The damage on that one was light for a cat C really, when you price up bumpers and labour etc its easy to see why the cost exceeded that of the value as the book price is relatively low really, i would be willing to accept an offer just above the 2k mark, its a very tidy car.

what?? £1500 option? what is it gold?

I dont know for sure if Sunflower was Shaun just saying its a possibility as that was the score with the 182's in the two colours mentioned!

I think the most likely possibility with the Sunflower 172's was that only a certain amount were given to the UK as a more exclusive colour what with the PH1's being the first line of the newer Clio Hot Hatch gen after the Valver and Williams and having barely no options availible!

Im sure i read somewhere a fair old while ago that only a certain amount of this colour was distributed to certain country's.....Im actually pretty sure that was the case tbh but i may be wrong!

Yellow even back then would've been a fairly sought after colour for a hatch i should imagine what with all the boggo Punto's and the like flying about in that colour and it being right in the middle of the modding boom and its flashy colours! It was at its peak at the time these were being produced!
