ability of 1.2 16v

my clio, a 1.2 16v billabong (dynamique based), is my first car.

i was wondering, how are they for performance, as my friends are all of a similar age to me (18) and all drive small hatches.

just wanted to know any ideas of similar small cars, which mine would beat, as i have a few cocky friends in their mums fiestas!

thanks guys

MATE U WILL BLOW MOST SMALL HATCHES. I CAN BEAT 1.4S AND THE ODD FEW 1.6S. MY MATE DRIVES A LIGHTLY TUNED 1.4 SAXO AND WE ARE HEAD TO HEAD. ALSO HE IS A BETTER DRIVER THAN ME.

so id have no probs against the following? (to list a few):-

- pug 106 1.1

- punto 1.1

- pug 306 1.4

- escort 1.4

- bravo 1.6 (i doubt id beat that one though) lol

ME MATE HAS A PUG 106 1.1, KILLED IT. ALL THE OTHERS U WILL BEAT APART FROM BRAVO. BRAVO IS POSSIBLE IF YOU ARE A BETTER DRIVER THAN HIM.

SO THERE U GO THEN, U CAN BEAT ALL OF THEM, AND PEOPLE WHO DONT NO MUCH ABOUT CLIOS JUST TELL THEM IT IS A 2.0.

1.4 saxos only have 75 bhp same as 1.2 clios.

alot of 1.4s have much more power, so you wont beat them all. if you beat 1.6s, they were not trying :D

I WAS JUST SAYING FROM EXPERIENCE, MAYBE THEY WERENT TRYING OR MAYBE I WAS THE BETTER DRIVER.

You wont beat a punto 1.2 16v. They have 85bhp. O-60 in 9.9secs. Had one before my clio was much quicker off the mark. Handling however, was a different story!!

an why lie an say u have a 2 litre when then yall jus get ad off by a 1.3 metro gta like me nans.ha ha "ya got ad off my a metro" against an alledgid v6 clio> yeah ok ya tit!

The 172 has always been the shouted about the most with the lesser models remaining in the shadows. However the normal Clio chassis is fluid and gives plenty of feeback, its how you would expect a french hatchback to be. I enjoy driving mine even though there isnt enough power to exploit the chassis. As a first car though you dont want too fast a car, or youll end up killing yourself anyway! The car has 75bhp which is the same as many 1.4s from other companys, e.g all VW 1.4s. In comparison to my friends 1.1 106 the Clio is so much faster top end, the Pug struggles to get to 100mph whereas the Clio is still pulling strong.

rapidospuntolar - who are you? Why do you come here? Are you just some maxmuppet that didnt manage to learn his own language, and gets pleasure from trying to wind up clio owners? Or are you just a c**k?

Infact earlier you mentioned you cant even drive, so how do you even know what its like to drive with excess speed. Just feel quite safe sat behind your computer screen where no1 can get you a? or perhaps u have no friends elsewhere to go to? or are they like every1 else and think your a complete, utter, cocksucker?

Just to let you know, becasue of course you dont know, its not what car you drive, its how u drive it. And a metro GTa it a fab car to drive. Handles superb, quickish and great fun. and if you ask me would suprise a lot of people. but does your nan really have one of these? or are YOU lieing again??

One more thing, before you go chatin like your some sort of ganster rapper, learn some sh*te about cars and driving before you come back. Knowledge is the key, go back to school, learn how to spell, write, read and speak the language of the country you live in, then you may come up with some valid points. untill then, as Fred says, f**k Off!

i agree, the punto learner "rapidospuntolar" private messaged me with the following collection of bullsh*t":-

__

"lad ive got a 1.1 punto an me mates got a 1.2 clio billabong an i can smoke him off easy.so dont be giving puntos a bad name ok dickhead! ill smoke you off anyday! c ya mate. "

__

the cheek he has to call me a dickhead, oh well. i hope he continues to have fun in driving his 1.1 punto, did they even put them on gran turismo?

in conclusion, i have to say i agree with fred and Dust 100%, may i finish by also adding f**k off!

U will be able to keep up with and maybe beat the majority of the older 1.4s, but not the new ones as the usally have much more torque which gives them bettre acceleration. BHp isnt that important for acceleration, the more torque the quicker u are in each gear.

Oh ya and you wouldnt have a chance in hell against a 1.6, whoever says that is f**king thick.

ho ho ho he he he I do love these forums back to the thread!!

Drop it 60mm on PI springs standard alloys and just make sure you got some roundabouts in your route, none of your mates will have a chance, Wait till you have been drivin a bit before you start doing roundabouts at 50 60 ish, but its not too much of a problem!!!

And as for the whole 1.4 thing, as an example Seat Ibiza 1.4s 2001 model, takes 0.2 seconds more to get to sixty and thats based on factory figures, real life I think its slightly slower. Has far more torque higher up though, fifth gear really pulls!!

Enjoy the car they great fun,

Ren16v: no offense but please make sure you know what you talking about before posting,

No it does NOT affect free insurance, Renault free insurance are perfectly ok with lowering, aftermarket alloys, up to £1000 of cosmetic styling bodykits etc, and up to £1000 of In car entertainment,

Very bizarre I know but I have had this confirmed by them many times.

What they DO object to is ANYTHING that incrases performance, Induction Kits, Performance air filters, Exhausts, Chips, etc etc

hope thats cleared up for you,

Colour coding looks great too, check http://www.adrenalinone.co.uk/clio.htmlwww.adrenalinone.co.uk/clio.html if you want to see colour coding on Silver 1.2 16v

rapidospuntolar,

i dont think there was any need for that, i was just saying from experience. and i dont go round saying i have a 2.0 coz i aint like that, but some people do go round saying that. like most nova drivers i meet say they have 2.0 but really its a 1.4sr.

y dont u go and find a punto forum and stop sl*gging people off on this forum, i think most people would agree with me.

noel-polit,

you have just made my day, i am going to start planning mods now. i cant believe they will do that.

thanks again:D

clioman: no problem at all, always phone them up yourself to check and get a name and date and time of phone call,

If one of them tells you its not covered then put the phone down and call and speak to someone else!! You have no idea how thick they are!!!

Ren16v: No problem at all, opinions is what makes the forum thrive if opinions are not aired then none of us would learn anything!!! This way next time someone asks you can tell them!

Im not one of these people of who unfortunately there are a few around who start a big flame war when someone makes the slightest mistake.

Good luck clioman, let me know what mods you do, any more help or advice message me and I will see if I can help.

Where you based

so if i lowwered 60mm,

put 17s on,

tinted my windows

colour coded,

and put a bit of ice in,

this would be no problem.?

would i be better keeping the 15s on, or should i go for 16/17s if i can?

The only one I have not asked them about is tinted windows but I will be doing that myself in the next few weeks so will let you know,

Should not be a problem at all.

Re: wheels been toying with that one myself, Lowering 60mm on standard is great, I love it, been thinking about getting some 172 wheels for a while but just secured some Team dynamics Phantoms second hand, (mint condition) to get 17s on with -60mm drop you should really replace the dampers with uprated dampers as opposed to just using lowering springs and standard dampers. Coilovers is best but they are £500+

Have been told today that I should be fine, with some arch work and not too many problems. Will be putting wheels on soon as I can afford tyres so prob a few weeks, If worst happens and I have major problems then I will get coilovers!!!

Its all fun!!

What colour is your clio?

Yeah Thats right be careful with offset though, the cup and 172 are different offset to ours, basically how much they stick into or out of the arch,

Our offset is 38, 172 is 48.5 lower the number means they stick OUT of the arch more, higher the number means they stick INTO the arch more,

Therefore a set of our alloys would go onto a 172 with minimal problems, a wheel with 48.5 offset would not go onto our,

Check the offset first

  Lionel Richie

noel, i beg to differ!!!!! std offset for a dynamic is ET48.5 (its stamped onto the spare wheel, have a look if you dont believe me!!!!!)
