i know its very chavvy but i took the lid off my airbox and i really like the noise it makes but its sucking in hot air which isnt good for the engine or the power output, is there anyway of keeping that noise but without sucking in hot air? i dont really want a massive induction kit either, i was thinking of putting the lid back on and making a metal shield type thing around the intake hose so it only sucks in cold air and not hot air floating around the engine bay, would this work?

Drill a few holes in the airbox with a hole cutter tool. Around 2".

Below the filter element though.

I'd just leave it though.

I wouldn't drill it. Especially not on a car like that, although it would make the desired noise.

The only way to do it properly is with a good quality induction setup fed with cold air.

I was talking to Icarus about this and he said there wouldn't be any noticable difference anyway. The filter is locked in place too so I don't see the problem with taking it off, I've been running mine without the cover since I bought it and it's fine!

you sure? i trust your judgement because your a track-head, but eveyone ive spoke to has moaned loads about hot air getting into the engine and thats its not good and that it loses bhp bla bla bla :boring:

but its closer to the engine than the induction hose and its sucking in warm air but more air where as normally it sucks in cold air but not alot of air

surely all the inducting is happening from the bottom?

Stop being such a girl, if Icarus says its fine, its fine.

No harm in driling it... but do it under the bottom of the box so the air is still drawn through the eliment!

I will just leave it off, I don't wanna drill it because I regretted drilling the one on the polo

i was looking at the airbox setup last year and i was trying to work out a way of removing the bottom half of the airbox and turning the top half 90degrees to the left and making some king of heat shield from sheet metal. was going to be too much time and effort tho.
