ABS and SERVICE light on

my mate has got a mk1 172 like mine and asked me to ask u guys for help.....

he said his abs light and serv light on dash comes on now and again. but not when he brakes, just randomly for a few minutees. any had this before or no what it could be?

I think its been said before that a sensor/switch causes this, not sure if its the actual brake light switch though. Of course I could be entirely wrong.

had mine sorted yesterday by Renault, they said it was a switch that needed adjusting near the brake pedal, whaterver it was it has solved it.
