ABS & ESP packed up :-(

  Clio 200

I had the SERV light come on in the week along with the ESP & ABS lights. Next morning all was well again, but they re-lit up after about ten miles. I phoned the dealer and have booked it in next Tuesday for them to take a look at. Since doing that it has of course been absolutely fine since :)

Is this a common fault on Clios? I assume the engine ECU (or something) will probably have logged the fault. I am going away next weekend and dont want the dealer just saying no fault found as ABS and ESP could be a life saver in this sh*tty weather!

yes a very common fault and needs the brake pedal switch adjusting.

This along with the 3 beeps seem to be the most common in the early days.

Neither of which I have had. (Touch wood)

Yep i had this on my 172, and sadly i think youll find no fault is logged. It is cleared when you turn off the iginiton. (only to come back again soon as you have found)

Was eventually fixed under warranty, and as Liam says its a faulty brake pedal switch. Mine was replaced but it may just need adjusting. I found a side effect of the fault was that my brake lights were needing too much pressure on the brake pedal before they would light up. Around town using light braking I wouldnt be pressing hard enough for the lights to come on .

I believe that while the warning lights are on your ESP and ABS are deactivated, presumably because as their maybe a fault it could be giving dodgy readings and make things worse.

trt and find a dealer that has already cured the fault. Ask around on here to find one then at least they dont try messing with other stuff first.

Or print the posts off form here and make them listen to you.

just taken mine in for exactly the same problem - dealer had no idea what to do I TOLD them what they needed to do and they have still told me they couldnt find a fault! Their advice was monitor the problem and let us know what happens. I hope it the light comes back on and i will print the posts off here and show them see if that helps.

Thanks for the info. I will mention the brake pedal switch as the likely culprit and see what they say.

Who knows, they may surprise me and fix it :)

i haev this problem with my 1.4 clio, sometimes the abs light comes on with the traction control and serv light, but not all the time.

It only happens every now and again tho. I hope the fault has been logged in the newer clios systems.

i have this problem too, Im now paranoid thinking my brake lights aint coming on early enough lol

I think its a brake pressure sensor which needs re-calibrated. Speak to the service manager before you go in and tell him to check the Renault bulletins...
