ABS...or lack of!

When the abs light comes up, what could be the cause? Slamed the breaks on and just skids so definately no abs

sensor, abs ring, computer, wiring, fuse, pump, could be a few things.

Is the service light also on?

No service lights are on and went for a blast today and the light wasnt on, planted the brake and I have abs! :S After that for 10 min or so the light was on again but went off. Im quite confused at moment. As dan said I also think its a fuse on the way out or grounding issues?
