ABS ring/sensor issue on a 1.2

On the front of the Clio Mk2 1.2, are the ABS rings separate to the discs?

Also, are they model specific or would one for a 1.2 be needed?

Same goes for the sensor, are they model specific too?


ABS and Serv light comes on after prolonged 50mph+ driving and it is not the brake pedal switch, believe me I've cheked it. Whilst heavy breaking it's possible to get the wheel to lock which suggests an ABS ring/sensor problem to me.

yep thats the same as me, the garage told me on monday they are going to put an abs ring on if this doesnt work they are going to put a right front abs sensor on

Rings are on the shafts.

Sounds like a cracked ring, get your hand on shaft and see if you can twist the ring independent of the shaft.

Certiainly does, not even attached to the discs. They're pressed onto the shafts.

It'll depend what year it is. They changed from 26 to 44 around 2003, though being renault it's a bit hit and miss. Only real way it to count teeth.

Does anyone know how easy/difficult it is to fit a new ABS ring?

Is it DIY-able or a garage job?

Def DIY if your fairly handy.

Whip the shaft out the hub, can be done by undoing the ball joint. If the old one is cracked it'll fall off pretty easily. Then new one is pressed on. Will need heating up to get it on with easy, but not difficult with a blowtorch if you keep moving it.

Yeah thanks, just had a look at this. Wrong car but gives the basics and I'm more than happy to give it a go

States they can even be fitted cold, but this is obviously going to be more difficult.

you CAN buy some from Renault even though they are not on Dialogys
