ABS + Serv light

Just came on after a motorway drive.

70mph and it came on, Turned the car off and its gone..

But when turning the battery light on the ABS light comes on, Then off again when the engines started.. I cant remember if this is standard for it to come on as part of the car starting? (the abs light)

After replacing ARB bushes under medium to heavy braking on smooth road sometimes the ABS does kick in for a second.

Broken ABS sesnsor? The teeth are on the disks aren't they? My disks are fairly new so i dont think it could be that...

Any other suggestions? Will do a search later.

I had that a couple of times. Came on, turned the car off, went off again.

When you turn on the ignition the ABS light will illuminate, then go off again after a few seconds (unless there is a problem)

I think the ring is cracked.. But the rears are drums and the front teeth are made into the disk arent they? Or are the rings pressed into the disk?

The light comes on when i start the engine "ABS" no serv anymore..

I know its coming on because its flashed up today, Is it normal for ABS to flash up on a normal car before the engine starts ? Just checking.

Ah i did see that, So its normal..

I think there must be some kind of fault ...Just going to the shops again.30 to 0 stop medium braking puts abs on for a split second...

No bumpy ground...

Maybe ill have the wheels off and have a look soon.

Didnt**

Anyone else got any sugestions?

Are then ABS teeth in the disk rings?, Thats just on the sport rears isnt it? iirc they are molded into the disc on mine.

Wiggle some wires about see if that turns them off. My air bag light comes on, wiggle wires under seat and it goes. Could be ABS ring slipping though.

The serv light is off now, ABS light only flashes up on start up, Then dissapears when engines on.

Keeps happening (abs kicks in for a second), Stopping at 15 to 0 braking, Nothing heavy.

Im feeling a faulty ABS sensor ? I cant see how these disks (seeing as there only about 7k miles) old... have broken teeth.

ABS rings are on the drive shaft, not in the front disc.

ABS rings are in rear discs.

Check your ring ;)

Dont think its possible for the rings to slip.

Common causes:

-Dirty abs teeth. give each ring a clean and make sure the gaps in the teeth have no dirt.
-Broken/rusted/missing tooth on ABS ring
-Dirty ABS sensor - try cleaning the detector sensor
-Faulty sensor

As its a time consuming job and process of elimination might be easier to take to a garage and get a fault code reading. Fault code reader will at least tell you where the and which corner has the problem.

Thats the answer i was looking for, Cheers i will check them out.

Again, Cheers ill check and clean the rings. I think they could be dirty or a broken tooth etc.

If they are broken is a new driveshaft needed?

Yep as above, a new ring (!) can be had for about £11 from Ebay. 2 hours (ish) to fit - job done.

If you get your head behind the wheels with a torch you will be able to see the ring on each shaft just befoe it disappears into the hub assembly, so you can quiclky inspect them for damage and clean them up if needed.

I've still not fixed mine :( keep managing to turn the fault off with my mates VW fault reader (very random that it doesn't communicate with the car/reader but turns the light off!!) and the fucker grinds like a goodun for a few times then stops and the light comes on again :(

It's up on the ramp tomorrow at my work so il crack on and see what's up with that me thinks.

I will have a look very soon, Cheers for the replys, Was slow answers before so i just left it ! Will get the wheels off soon and have a gander, Then change the ring if broken.. Will report back.

What fault light do you have? ABS + SERV light showing up constantly?

All of them! :)

when it does the grinding the ESP and serv lift flicker then come on. Turn car off, does same thing.

Then after a few trips the ESP and serv light stay on even when ignition is on, a day or so later and the ABS light is on too.

ABS comes on because of the ESP fault tho I believe.

Il find out tomorrow..haven't had the time so far!

Ive only had the ABS + serv light on once, That was high speed... well what you can do in a 1.2...

I only have abs light when the battery is on then off when the engines off which i understand is normal starting procedure.

Im still having the ABS kicking in unnecessarily though, Need to get my head in the arches.
