Re: 172 rear axle

Nope just swop it over.

You did use rear axle with Abs sensors didn't you?

Check the amount of teeth on the ABS rings are the same on both the disk rear axle and compair that to the amout of teeth on the old rear beam.

Re: 172 rear axle

why would the amount of teeth be different?

i know the front drive shafts on the clio there is 2 different ones with different number of teeth i fitted the wrong one to mine a while back and the speedo was showing 1 1/2 time the speed i was doing

think its dependent on the year

Re: 172 rear axle

yeh thts it!, if i have the back ABS sensore plugged in the car barely stops as the ABS is cutting in constantly at very low speeds. with the rear unplugged the front is still cutting in a bit too early!

Re: 172 rear axle

There are less teeth on the drums than on the disks therefore the abs computer goes into a safe mode and creates this pedal juddering. The computers confused.
I got it on mine as the sensors on the front were broke, but as i have a full 172 conversion the front and rear rings now have the same ammount of teeth.

Im unsure if the computer can be calibrated to have a different ammount of teeth on rear as the front.

Does anybody know whether the abs computer can be recalibrated to different brake set-ups. i.e less teeth on the ring?

Nope, you can fool the system though but easier by miles to fix it.

so im guessing i need a different axle then? as the one on mine obiously doesnt have the same number of teeth?

Teeth are on the disk from memory so get a disk with the right number of teeth or one made up.

Check the number are the same as your old rear axle.

Mike, i am trying to find out the ammount of teeth for a disked up 1.6 or DCI they should have the same as yours as they use the same front drive shafts. you could however get some made up as edde says.

Yeah Mike as said above if you get the same amount of teeth you had with the drums you had on before it'll work.

Where did you get the axle from aswell?

i got it from ben 16v off here but i was unaware of these problems so didnt check the number of teeth on the ABS rings
