Accelerator Boost Button on 172's??

Hey guys, i went into my local car dealership as i saw a 172 on the forecourt and was asking questions about it...

The guy told me about some accelerator button you press for extra boost???

Basically, when you push the pedal all the way down, u can push your foot down a little bit more and it turns on variable valve timing (similar to VVT or V-TEC in Honda's)... I've tried it, and there most certainly is a noticeable extra button-like thing but does it even do anything??

Is this true or not? If it isnt, the guy seemed very convincing!!

The guy is a tool.

Its an over ride function for Cruise control/speed limiter.

FLOL!!! Boost button.

The button is under the carpet, you have to rip that out before the button is available for use.

They all have it. Suppose it saved on production costs to fit them all with it rather than just some.

haha! cool... i did think it was a bit strange that no one on here has mentioned it before... so how come i have it, but only have a 172 cup with no C/C? bit strange...

I tend to find that the further the pedal goes down, the faster the car goes.

actually no, when i rang up about the 200 the guy told me it was better than the 197 because the supercharger was more powerful. FLOL

A friend of mine went and bought a CTR a few weeks ago and the guy at the garage told us that 'the turbo kicks in at about 5,500' i just laughed in his face.... couldn't hold it in.

Always amazes me how so many dealers know absolutely feck all about the product they're selling. The guy I bought my 200 from just handed me the keys and said "I won't bother showing you around it, you probably know more about it than I do".

Oh, and just to answer the OP, it's a cancel switch for the speed limiter. In case of emergency.

Unfortunately he had to remove it, blew the welds on the intake iirc.
