Adobe Illustrator help

  RB 182
For all you graphic designers/printers:

I’m doing a company leaflet which is going pretty smooth, when I’ve come to print the document you can see the “transparent” layer on all imported images… It’s a different colour to the background which is very very slight, but can be seen.

All my 3D CAD renders/photo’s are done in Photoshop, then I’ve used the magic wand tool to select the background I don’t want and delete. I’ve tried both .pdf and .gif files to export. The images in Illustrator and Adobe are both CMYK for printing.

Any advice would be very welcome, I can email the file over if anyone can help

Can you see the effect only on print? or can you see it on a PDF of the job?

Email me the job on:

All images need to be processed in photoshop with a clear background, then save them as .PNG before importing into illustrator. That should work!

Ok I've had a look....

I can't see the problem this end? The images seem to have clipped out fine - I've printed both the AI and PDF and can't see the issue?

I've also opened the PDF in photoshop to get colour samples from the background and the background near the images, they have the same colour values.

Also, if they are fine your end then I will just keep them as they are :) rather than trying to sort out something that isn't wrong in the first place. Just read the bit about PNG for web... wont try that one then ;) lol

I think the files will be fine m8.

Send it to your printers and ask to see a proof before they run it - you'll get a close match to how it will look on the press.

Any problems just give me a shout! Next time set it up in indesign ;)

Cheers for looking into it! I think I will dabble with the printer settings also. We are using a Laserjet which seems to be more colour sensitive to my old inkjet.

Well I've run it on a £300,000 digital press and it looks ok :)

Check your colour profile setting in illustrator.

Does your job look like my screenshot?

Also are you on windows or mac? windows is abit crap at colour management.

Just tried it on our A1 printer and its fine... not close to your 300K printer tho ;) hehe. Looks like I need to change my printer settings on the laserjet...

I'm using Windows to do the work, I mainly use it for CAD and the illustrator stuff is just something I do on the side. Managment cant stretch to a mac :( tight gits...
