In photoshop can someone tell me how you make the background black and white and leave an area still in colour e.g a red car on a b/w background?

This will be my next purchase - was going to get it few weeks ago but I snapped up a Nikon macro lens

We used it in uni (Photography course) and it's the only way now.
Unless some mega PS work is needed.
