Advice on Buying 1.8 16V Clio

Hello, am new to this site so apologises if this is in the wrong section.

Am looking at buying a Mark 1 Clio 1.8 16 V tomorrow. What are the top 3 things I need to look out for. The car has full service History, Log Book and I have done an RAC check which has come up clean. I am assuming dodgy electrics and rust are the two main things. Any advice most welcome.

Cheers

sorry to spam this thread but I'm buying a 03 plate 172 next week (so long as the gearbox on my mini holds out long enough to get it to Liverpool!) Should I watch out for the same sort of things? I'm aware electrics tend to be a classic after thought for most french cars, although I was hoping renault may take slightly more care than peugeot!

^^^^

not worth buying one then?

Dont get me wrong they're brilliant cars, i love mine to pieces, just not fast enough anymore lol, hence putting the 172 lump in.

the drive is so much better than a 172, more chuckable and is a damned sight quicker point to point than a 172.

another thing to look out for is a wooly steering collumn, with the engine not running, but the ign on try feeling for freeplay, if there is, it needs replacing or welding.

as for the 172, the ph2 has the crappy fbw throttle, so check that it drives mint, and doesnt hesitate sometimes, check the a/c works as sometimes needs regassing, the rear shocks are prone to going, and check the condition of rear discs.
