Advice on buying a CAT D 182

I have seen a racing blue 182 but its CAT D. i think it was body work damage but im finding out. Its 04 plate - 10 k on the clock £6900.

The main reason for me chaning to a 182 is because i want more power for track days this year.

If im goin to rag the car lots on the track and modify it is it worth spending extra and finding a 182 for £9000 thats not CAT D?

Its got to be better than that guy buying the old press car!! (no offence)

Nothing wrong with cat D cars - if they have been repaired proffesionally they are equally as good as a non damaged vehicle.

As Matt says, don't see anything wrong with them. As long as the work's been finished well and the price you pay reflects it. Then you'll just sell it for a bit less too. Good idea if you're gonna keep it for a while. Just check airbags etc. A lot of people get scared by them for some reason, probably with all the hpi checking etc that goes on now. I had a rolled cat D, it needed a new roof skin, passenger door, windscreen and a full respray. Paid loads less for it, is 100% and got brand new paint work, no chips or dents anywhere. Everything works perfectly.

I had a mk3 golf gti once that was CAT D too, hadn't been repaired as well and was a pain to shift because of that. Should have checked it over more but you learn..........

I've got a Cat D 172. If you search the net, you'll find that accepted value is between 20 and 30% less than the 'list' price of an unregistered car. I've had no problems with the car (apart from the usual stuff that goes wrong with Renaults!) and I've not got any regrets about buying it 8 months on. Cat D is the least severe form of damage and a car can even be written of as a D if the parts for repair are taking too long to source etc.

Just check it over really well, pay a lot of attention to the underside of the car. Make sure the subframes look in good condition, have a nosey through the front bumper to see how the radiator etc looks. I can still see damage on mine from the crash it was in, but just in so much as some of the under car plastics are cracked and were re-used by whoever fixed it, and the grille (an expensive part) has been repaired instead of replaced. Other than that, it's all good.

£6900 sounds a good price too. Better not let me know where it is as I'd probably be interested myself
