Advice on front pads, and where to get them

Im looking for some new front pads for my 182. Ive read a lot of posts about the EBC pads. Im confused as to which 'colour' pads to get, and a lot of people arent recommending them at all!

Basically, which are the best all round pads (no track use), and which is the cheapest place to get them?

Thanks

Ferrodo DS2500's are awesome pads. If you want EBC pads then get the greenstuff ones though they are not much better than stock and will fade with enough heavy braking.

i've been told not to touch greenstuff, yellow stuff are pretty much the same as standard and red stuff is an upgrade. but majority of people go for the ferrodo ds2500 as these seem to be a very good pad

I got a set of ferodo, after much grief, through motorworld. Not DS2500s, but they were cheaper than OEM. Can't fault them.

Nothing wrong with standard tho.

i was in your situation and all i got back regarding feedback from cliosport was a bunch of mixed opinions (no offense) So i opted for standard renault sport pads from yozza. If i had the choice to make again, i would still go with OEM...as they do the job.

Whats the difference between these?

http://www.yozzasport.co.uk/proddetail.php?prod=ferodo_ds2500_brake_pads_front_clio_172_182

They look exactly the same and have the same spec number. So why are they £30 different?

The website says they are for different models. It could just be the pictures taken were of the same product as he didn't have the other one in stock? I would say give him a call but I doubt he has his mobile on.

Looking at upgrading my brakes too - Brembo HC front discs from GSF and Pagid RS-4 Blue pads.

Where's the cheapest place to get the Pagid blues from? (excluding Yozzasport).

Thanks

Not sure what others think about them but I just went to Camberly Auto Factors and got some Delphi pads and they seem to work just fine for me!

So the Ferodos are great all round pads? Im just worried that im going to be spending more than I want to on pads that arent really designed for general road use. The Ferodos seem to be hardcore track pads!

Has anyone tried Ktecs own brand pads?

Only ask because looking on ktecs site, the cheapest pads are the KTR Ultimaxs, then the EBC Greenstuff.

I could get a full (front and rear) set of the EBCs for the price of just the front Ferodos. But would it be worth the extra $$ just for general 'spirited' road use??

avoid greenstuff mate, i've got them at the moment and i'm looking for replacements. The fade on them is unbelivable (and thats just on road use)

Dont bother getting track focussed expensive pads.

Go to buypartsby.co.uk and buy their standard mintex pads for £25. Better than OE at a fraction of the price. Excellent for fast road use

IMO

If your a fluent 'spirted' driver who doesn't lean on your brakes like an F1 driver then I would personally go for OEM pads or if you want less brake dust greenstuff pads (they really aren't that bad but will fade if you push them).

If you are a ruthless 'spirited' driver who goes flat out to the corner brakes as hard as possible and then has foot flat to floor again then the greenstuffs will not cope so pay the extra and get the ferrodos.

Don't put anything other than stock pads on the back as its not worth it because the braking that the rear end does is minimal.

Thing is its up to you really as all we can do is give you our opinions on pads etc but how one pad reacts with one driver is going to react differently with another because of varying driving styles. So you may or may not find the greenstuffs to be pants but it depends how you drive etc.

Thanks for that caister.

At the moment, I just using the car for commuting, and having a little 'play' every now and then. I dont have any plans to do any trackdays yet.

If the greenstuffs fade under HARD braking, then they may be the pads for me as I wont be driving like an F1 driver on the road!

But then I keep thinking, the Ferodos are only £40 more than the EBCs. May sound a lot to some people, but with the bills Ive been paying on this car so far, £40 is a bargain!!

I've had Ferodo DS2500's and was very dissapointed with them. They aren't either track pads ar road pads - will fade on track and require heat to work properly so not ideal on the road. They take a few stops to build enough heat, if you are driving on the motorway for example and don't use your brakes for 1/2 an hour, then don't rely on them to bite instantly if they are suddenly needed. I'm currently using cheapo halfords pads on the front (£13 on trade card) and can't fault them, I've have had no fade whatsoever, that said I've been driving normally - its not exactly the time of year for hard braking!
I've got some Pagid Blues and Brembo Max disks to fit in the spring, but I don't see the point of putting them on now.
Recently replaced the worn OE rears with EBC Greens and the overall braking of the car seems improved (I live near EBC and the trade counter gives 25% discount)
My original front pads were OE and I was very surprised at how easily they faded, thus upgrading to the DS2500's which appear somehow to be a cliosport favorite. If I was in your situation I would seriously consider some Mintex 1144's they are loved by other forums, just not here, they work well from cold and can handle some hard work. That said, so can EBC Greens and, if they were really that bad, do you think they would still be selling them?

I've used the £13 halfords pads and they were great. i'm not a driver who relies on the brakes alot though i tend to adjust speed before the corner rather than just slamming on. Never Had brake fade with them and at £13 you can afford to replace them more often not that i needed too.

mixed opinions LOL

nothing wrong with greenstuff for road
DS2500's are fine on road and track

it seems people uprate their brakes and then become heavier brakers LOL

even standard pads and uprate the brake lines

Fella get yourself some Pagid RS4-2 Blues. They cost around £150 for the fronts but are the daddys. Has anyone got a bad word to say about the Pagid except for the price? Quality comes at a price but at least you'll have superb stopping power. Try some Brembo HC disks from GSF - about £30 each. The Brembo max discs are the same but with grooves in them - not worth the extra.

Thats the thing though mate - the price. Im not using my car on the track so carnt justify spending £150 on pads! I have Brembo Max already

Blag a halfords trade card, buy some £13 pads( £25 on the shelf), if you don't like them for whatever reason (which I doubt), throw them away and you're losses are minimum.

NEVER EVER EVER fit front pads from halfords.

(Unless they are another brand)

Fred is correct.

Yozzasport dont sell halfords pads because they;

1. Dont tend to sell s**t.
2. Arent halfords

Lets try not to be a troll.

I've not read most of the second page, so not sure if its been covered but I'm currently using RedStuff's on the front of mine, and I rate them highly!

Once you have used then 2/3 times, nbot even from speed so they warm slightly they bite really well, would definately recommend them.

Although only other pads I have used are OEM ones so not too good a comparrison.

My car is also driven fairly hard and they cope very well.
