Aerial base- am I being thick?

Think my aerial base needs replaced as radio signal isn't great compared to my lasses Mini.
So I wanted to try one from a scrap yard first. Removed the bolt under the headlining and it's loose but there's 2 attachments- 1 white wire with a clip but what do I do with the second wire? Does it pull out the base or need disconnecting from somewhere as well? If so where as it seems to disappear into the offside trim towards the rear side window.

There is a connection down the right hand side C pillar if your looking from behind.

A random one I know, but cheap USB chargers etc can cause interference and what seems like poor reception.

Although its my dashcam that interferes with my radio, not the charger.

Could the aerial itself be at fault? Touching it with metal, the reception is spot on again
