Air bag serv light turned off by clip?

  Black Sheep
Getting my AUX belt and tensionar done on Friday at a specialist. I have tried all the connections ect to get my air bag serv light off including the one in the steering wheel. It is really intermitant in the way the lights go off and on. Was wondering what other people's experiences are, after conceeding defeat to these annoying lights and getting a pro to plug it into there diagnostic machine to get the problem sorted. I have heard they can be turned off by something called clip?

Renault Clip will be able to clear the fault codes but the light will come straight back on when the Airbag ECU "finds" the faults again.

I'm sure there's a guide on here somewhere that shows you exactly how to tackle the wiring under the passenger seat etc.

I have looked at the guides. Where you use the resistor ect, but I am sure that means the airbags in the seat will simply not go off in a crash. I may be wrong but that's the impression I got. Same as the one where you clip a wire coming out the ecu. I want to have the airbags functional but no light.

You can use clip to tell the ECU not to look for the missing part IIRC.

You use CLIP to reconfigure the SRS ECU so that it simply doesn't have the bag unit by de-configuring the trigger lines.

It's not something you want to play with if you don't know what you're doing but its not an overly long process.

We do it for £20 if you fancy a drive to Nottingham.

I could do with being in Nottingham with your prices Mick. The belt and tensionar is setting me back £168, another place was £211! So it wouldn't be unreasonable for the guy on Friday to be able to turn them off and my airbags to remain active for a small fee like yourself.

They are Renault sport specialists, and very well regarded by a few on here.

Where are they located?

Also - Mick - If you disable the airbags via clip can you remove the airbag ecu or does this still need to be present?

They are SWR in stirling. Mark R has had some really good work done by them.

No, you have to leave the SRS ECU in place so it can work the other units; pre-tensioners, inertia reels, passenger air bag, lateral crash sensors, etc

If you have an ESP equipped vehicle this system uses the SRS inertia and G-Sensors to further prohibiting the removal of the SRS system. It can be done but its not a simple process.

As for someone else doing CLIP reconfiguration work for £20... I can't say as its not my business.

Cheers mick. I will ask them about the stuff you have mentioned. See what they can do
