Air bag/ service light AGAIN.

Bme

  Renault Clio mk3
Hi all, I'm sure this has been asked dozens of times but I've looked through several sites about this and my wiring seems to be different to every other pic I've seen. Basically my air bag and service light has been on for a while, I got the car serviced this weekend and the MOT is due next weekend. My mechanic had a quick look but couldn't pin point exactly what the fault was other than he told me it's the passenger air bag is showing open circuit. I have two connectors that I've found under and to the side of the passenger seat. I've read several places to cut the blocks out and solder the wires together (blue and brown wires) but my wiring has all sorts of different colours so don't want to just start cutting and soldering.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

I wouldn't solder anything together, would make removing the seat a right prick.

Did he tell you which airbag was open cct?
I'm not planning on removing the seat any time soon. Just need to get it sorted for the MOT and will look to sell it soon after.

He didn't, no. Just said it's the passenger side unfortunately.

Mk3? On a mk2 3 door it's very common for the connector under the seat to go from the seat being moved forward and back, not sure if that's the same on later cars. Common fix is either to cut the connector out and just join the wires together, but as above makes it a pain if you need to get the seat out, or get a new connector of some sort. I used deutsch connectors for the pretensioners on my recaros.

Yea it is a MK3 5 door, so the seat never gets moved really. The only thing I can think of is the rear seats get folded down quite often and press against the back of the front seats. But I can't see that causeing any problems. So not too sure why any wires would have broken.

Try pushing the wires into the connector, my lights were on because something was under the seat and pulled on them. Everything was plugged in and looked good but still had the lights on until I done that.
