Air Filter

Hello everybody, I´m writting from mexico and wanted to ask you about Air Filters...

I´ve just installed a Conical BMC high flow filter to my clio RS; the thing is that i´ve heard that it is necesary to reload some software in the car´s computer in order to achieve properly performance of the air filter (perhaps some HP gain)...

Could somebody of you tell me weather this is necesary or not? and what would happen if this software is not loaded? Here in mexico you wont recieve any help from the renault dealer in order to tune your car... plus, i´m new in these brand, I used to have dodge...

Thanks a lot.

Best regards..

Amarillo.

Hi Amarillo, and welcome to Cliosport :D

A conical filter wont make much difference to the fuelling on your car, so unless it really seems to be running lean I doubt youll need to adjust the ECU.

These filters dont work too well on large-engined clios unless youre getting lots of cold air supplied to the filter. Without a cold air supply the filter will suck in the hot, thin air from the engine bay. This means you get less oxygen into the engine, and therefore less power than youd get with a cold air supply. You might want to consider some pipes to get some cold air from outside the engine bay to your filter, and possibly a heat-shield.

Thanks a lot, then I have nothing to worry about; and I will eventually design a glass fiber heat shield or something like that.

Is there an Ideal place to fix the conical air filter? What could you recomend?

Thanks Again...

Best regards.

Amarillo

Put it as close to you can to the front of the engine-bay - away from the engine. The place where the airbox goes is probably as good as youll get.
