alarms and insurance

  Mk2 Golf GTI

does having a CAT 1 alarm make much difference to insurance quotes? i was looking at getting a clifford with the dual proximity sensor but i really wanted one with the remote engine start feature. i know the engine start voids the thatcham status but if it doesnt make much difference to insurance prices, ill probably get it anyway.

also, has anyone dealt with http://www.clifforddirect.co.ukwww.clifforddirect.co.uk as they seem quite cheap...

Depends where you live.

Id got mine just for no other reason than it is safer with one.

You migh save a few quid but its not enough to pay for the alarm.

Yea.. but then, I got my alarm for piece of mind.

Worth the money.

Only made a difference with one insurance company Ive been quoted with - and that was HIC.

Im getting mine for the piece of mind, i was having a serious look around a while back, they were the cheapest i found, but my mate is having one done by a local coampny so will get a quote off them

decided against engine start now, heard it can cause big problems! clifford are due to release a system with a pager, so you get a message if someone sets off your alarm.

on my old saxo i bought a cliford 500 alarm from clifforddirect they were great, and the cheapest i could find, had the thing put in on the day i asked for, the fitter talked me though it all. And i had a good nights sleep for the frist time in weeks. it also saved about £150 on my insurance with NU direct.
