ALL 172 CUP AND CLIO OWNERS





hey up guys and dolls!!! what is everyones mileage? are you noticing any engine issues, clutch gearbox??? my cup has had a oil change at 6k then service at 12k and is feeling lifeless, rough as f**k and clutch is stiff round town!!! anyone any thoughts? was the best way to keep these engines top notch..it has only had super unleaded from new!!!!

It didnt need the oil changing at 6000miles.My gearbox is a bit harsh when changing gear but it is a 2l after all and doesnt feel any worse compared to other ones i have driven.Dont thrash it until its warmed up and always use quality engine oil.Mines done about 12000miles

someone told me that there is a computer onboard which works out the best engine management setup, and if this causes loss of performance or running problems, you should disconnect the battery lead for 1 hour and when you put it back the engine will try to self-learn itself, it runs strange for a few miles until it does so, but might be worth a go if you have problems ? Dont quote me on this though, its just something i remember reading in this forum ages ago.

oil every 6k miles.

gearbox has always been a (little) sloppy, but that is the car. quickshift helps i think.

7.5k 53 plate Cup

Oil in at 6k. New tyres at 7.5k. Runs ok, knocking when tap throttle, another knock when wheels spin/jump.

Gearbox does feel lumpy..but reno innit.
 


52 reg, 13000, falling apart quicker than it can be stuck back together..... new knock sensor, new engine wiring loom, new throttle, new exhaust back section, new mounts for gearbox, engine, and exhaust...and latest, the bolt in the gearbox mount snapped........................... apart from all that its fine... lol ........oh and i have changed the oil three times , mobil 1
 


4000km, no oil consumption at all. Bit of pad material on the front fright disc which will be cured by DS3000 pads soon enough.

Stalls occasionally after starting, either cold or warm. Intermittent rough spots around 3000rpm.
 


31.5k and the engine mounts are on their way out I think. Engine (touchwood) runs very smooth and quiet and I give it Halfords own brand fully synthetic every 6k miles with top ups when necessary.
 


My clutch cable got a bit stiff and juddery - took it to Reno and they fitted a new cable under waranty, all ok now

Anyway, 53 plate Cup:


slight knocking in first/ second when i accelerate then come off the throttle.
Funny noise on full right lock.
1/4 litre of oil top up.
When something breaks ill get the others looked at. (Not concerned with Oil usage, as thats not a lot)
 


42,000 on a Y Mk2, Had the 4k rattle at 32,000, but replaced and renault put % towards the cost. (Did have to go to Renault UK to get it resolved though, they arguing that the milage was too high for it to be covered by warranty).

Everything else great, no rattles, even though its had a couple of shunts. Only lots of tyres and a new pads all round so far...

Very happy clio owners do exist ;)

My cups done 14000. I got the oil changed on about 3000 miles and had a service at 12000 and is running fine. The clutch gets a bit sticky (probably the pedal) when in stop-start traffic but thats it.

Only topped the oil up once aswell, and that wasnt after the trackday i did either. Although, Ive just done about 780 miles around Wales for the Rally, with 3 in the car and not hanging around and she needs a little oil now.
 


02 cup, 20500 miles


Engine mount replaced,
Mid section of exaust replaced
Wiring from engine to ecu replaced
All free :D


Funny knocking sound on full lock
Not sorted yet :(
 


God all these stories worrie me. :confused:

6500 on a 03 an im lovin it! Only just but a little oil in it but my williams was the same, every 6000ish, an my mates valver.

Had to go to dealer for the key to take off my centre caps! lol I never got one.

And will be on the blower to the tommotoe to sort out this issue about caps for the hums that a nice guy has noticed no one has!!
 


14000 on 52 plate cup. Itll be One next week. Ahh.

Knocking noise on suspension fixed at 7000miles, engine/gearbox mounts replaced at 11000, serviced at 12000 & needed new front tyres (but I swapped for the white 17s). Thats it so far.

Oh, and I have suffered from two specific rattles; firstly the panel on the inside of the tailgate, which I fixed with a tiny bit of rubber, then the long thin air vent below the windscreen, which Ive stopped rattling with a small piece of wrigglies wrapper.

These self learnt parameters can only be fully reset using renault diag tools on the newer vehicles.There is also specific conditions the vehicle has to be run after first resetting to set up the fuel richness parameters.The computer only self learns/adapts to your driving style.
 


Hit 28k this week on 02 plate MkII - Probs...

4K rattle: 3rd & 4th gears, but I decided to live with it for now.

Tyres: 3rd set tyres on front after 11k, 2nd on back after 26k. Incidentally, Michelin Pilot Exaltos - excellent in dry and wet.

Never had to top up oil, and I do thrash it from cold too (I join an unrestricted road as soon as I leave the house, and often need to keep up with the traffic, so to speak!)

Great car.
 


7000K This week. 3 engine mounts, 6 shox, 4 alternator adjusters. I might change the oil eventually, but then again, it doesnt really deserve it after all the bl**dy hassle. Still, I love it so Ill relent this weekend & give it the 5 lts of 0w40 thats in the garage.

Those with the funny knock/rattle from front suspension/steering. I finally found out that it is caused by the ROTARY SWITCH whatever that is. Was in EVOs end of term report on their CUP.

does the noise come from the steering column? probably the rotary switch

maybe, but only on full lock when turning right, doesnt happen when turning left.

Ill mention it at the service, but cant be fussed in waiting 3 weeks now for the car to be seen.

Not sure how really. average of 500 miles per weekend. Got this petrol addiction that need fixing. These Cliosport meets do a lot of em, but well worth it i say!

Also, really weird noise when i floor it in first. loud vibrating noise all the way though the gear, also does it through second if i hit a rut.
 


only 3k rattling sunroof still not sorted, gear stick replaced, rotary swich on steering wheel replaced.... back passenger side window replaced cos some b*****d put it through. Back wing passenger side respray due to glass fall out. door dint pulled out and door/wing/mirror case re-sprayed and badges/door protectors replaced after a silly b**ch in a merc reversed into the side of it IN THE RENAULT CAR PARK with only 300 miles. Ive also had the injection software loaded to the latest version which has helped with the stalling and poor mpg. Still runs rough from cold when in 1st.

just noticed youve got a cup. I think its your engine mount which cannot be cured at present.
 


thankyou very much for everyones comments and sugestions..my car is going in tomorrow and aint comin out till sorted even if i have to knee cap the b******s at gordonlamsb in chesterfield..im gonna kick the f**k ut of that mat if he looks at me in a cocky way 2mora like he always does!!!! cheers buddys;)
