Hi All,

Can anyone offer any advice on these?

I need 3 or 4 of these for work but decent ones are coming in at about £900 each.

Is there a particular model to go for? HP? Dell? Acer?

Also anywhere to get a multi buy discount?

Look in to the HP TouchSmart.. they're a fair bit cheaper AFAIK and they're not bad for general day to day use.

I was trying to avoid touch screen actually. Never used one but just need something basic for general office use. I can see the touch screen breaking quickly.

Can of course be used without the touchscreen, just using the keyboard and mouse. Just a general 'all rounder' in the world of all in ones.

I wouldn't go near one. They can be difficult and expensive to get spare parts for if something breaks on them ime.
Some laptops with a monitor and kvm switch could be a better option?
Or regular desktops..

We're on laptops at the moment but I want to move the guys to desktops now.

All in one really to save space and for the sleek look as we're customer facing.

If customer facing is the only reason for Al in one I see no issue with a small desktop under the desk and a smart looking screen with decent wire management on the desk? Will probably get more for your money and be upgradable in the future?

I think 8gb RAM is really important. 4 can slow down too much after a while!

It'll likely come in at another £60 per unit, and not for as much storage, but it will make them far more useable.

That's not true, unless we're talking about thin clients but then I doubt you'd be asking for IT advice on CS if that were the case.

It would mean faster boot and programme loading times. General productivity improvement.
That all your storage is on a server just makes an ever stronger case for a 128 SSD over a 500gb Spinning-platters drive.

Its been so long since I shopped for computers. I guess you cant buy packages anymore with cables, keyboard and mouse and all?

Thats why I'm asking the question guys! I'm a Mac fan and always have been and anything other than that, throws me.

That Think Station looks incredible. Spec is very strong!!

I actually really like the look of these.

When I click customise I cant see where I can change the hard drive to SSD?

Is it worth upgrading RAM to 16gb for £90?

The warranty looks awesome. As standard, 3 year parts and labour warranty. Site visits too.

Lenovo Think stuff is a solid choice for work mate. My last company bought me a Surface Book (£2k all in) and I hated it. It's marketed for media guys which isn't me, but the build quality was just a bit pants. Work for a bank now and have a ThinkPad and it's awesome, all the spec, nothing ostentatious about the looks and it feels well made.

SSD is good for keeping a machine feel fresh for long term, which gives the guys working one less thing to moan about.

8GB is fine for workstation type stuff, if you had a specific need for more RAM you'd probably know about it.

They have both all in one and small form factor PCs for a decent price.
16GB is probably overkill. 8GB would be fine unless you are doing graphic intensive work or processing massive queries/ excel files etc.

If it’s just basic office usage then an i3 with 8gb ram and a ssd will be plenty.

They’re sticking HP Pros under our desks with the same spec and they are spot on for most things. I’m still arguing my case for a better cpu as they don’t play well with big spreadsheets.

All the surfaces are s**t. The Book at least has a decent keyboard, just a flawed screen and materials let it down. Oh and the OS that isn't designed for a touch screen....

That's the same as our IT department has just fitted to our offices, although the units we have are from Dell.

Rather a Surface than an iPad pro.
I like 'em anyway, but they're not workstations that's for sure.

Not had a problem with our surfaces, but I guess it's down to what they're being used for.
For our guys, they wanted a Windows OS, simply running the Office suite, SAP, and have something light and portable.
Touch wood, not had a problem with any in 4 years.

PC wise, I build our office PC's now. Not a huge number of staff, so it was cheaper to build a decent spec machine, than buying in a ready made unit.

I really like my Surface Pro but I don't think I'd like it at work.

I think if you requirements revolve around the working being front of house, your main factor will be cordless mouse/keyboard which doesn't necessitate an all in 1 PC and gives you more options.

Love my surface pro. Use it for work and when docked is excellent. Provides huge amounts of flexibility.

Surface pro 3 i5 256gb with dock wouldn't be too expensive.
