Alpine/Ipod adapter

  172 cup
So I picked up one of these alpine ipod adapters off of ebay (the ones that do not have the module). Here's a picture of what I got:

So, the obvious plugs are the one which attaches to the cd changer on the back of the HU, another is the ipod connector. the other two I'm unsure about. I think the black one with the lil metal hoop is the grouding wire? Where all I would have to do is screw it in? The mystery wire I do not know what to do about is the red one? What is it used for? Any help would be greatly appretiated.

What model lead is it. doesnt look like the genuine one i got for mine, which was a kce-422i (i think from memory).

well when I say it doesnt look like mine, mine didnt have any extra wires. I would have thought that if its attached to the headunit, which is earthed anyway, it shoudnt need another ground?

cos its not genuine it uses a separate ignition feed and earth to charge your ipod, attach red to the ignition feed on the radio

Yes, as MT Audio said, it is not a genuine one, the Alpine KCA-420i which has the wires AND the silver alpine module cost somewhere around 100 quid, the above wire which was bought from ebay was only $8.00. Supposedly, they work in similar fashion, the only exception being that the ipod is not controlled via the HU, but rather, controlled by the ipod itself. (as if the ipod were connected to an aux output).

I'm going to try to get this connected today to see if it works, thanks for the advice guys.
