Alpine Ipod Head Unit Query

  Clio V6
I recently purchased one of these from Halfrauds. Does anyone know if I can keep the steering wheel controls by getting hold of an adopter? If anyone has done it before then I'd be grateful for some help :)

sorry to be off topic but, does your ipod charge when its connected? and did the ipod wire thing plug in to the headunit or a wire that was coming out of the headunit with a connection thing on?

thanks

yes the lead charges the ipod. On the x100 which is the one shown above it comes with an ipod lead in usb format. this plugs and screws into the back of the unit and can then be run to say the glovebox where the ipod can then be plugged in and forgotten about as the unit then overides the ipod. U can also plug in alpines FULL SPEED lead if you wanted to, However this is not as good as the USB lead in the way that it sounds and also the search speed.

The steering control adaptor is very dependant on what clio it is and whether the original unit says either tuner list on the front or update list! Some clio steering controls use normal multiple voltage switching wires but some use canbus data. Usually 2005 on cars need the can bus interface but this is approximately 60-80 quid. We have found, where i work that the best steering control interfaces are the ones sold by a company called incar tec. Far more reliable than autoleads and tend to work out of the box unlike autoleads!!

if hes got the the X300 then the usb wont work ipod anyway. That is just a usb for a memory stick etc. U would need the fullspeed lead for that unit. If he has any of the latest ipods then they have 5 volt charging. The usb lead on the X200 and X100 will still charge all the ipods as it is usb but any of the 2008 units using the full speed lead wont charge the latest 5 volt charging ipods. U can get an adaptor for the alpine lead which plugs in the end and changes the voltage. about 15 quid
