Alternator plug?!

What does the little plug (not the big red wire) on the alternator do??

is it meant to only have a single wire coming out of it?

on my ph1, its a two pin connector, but only has a white wire coming out of it, it also has what looks like a green wire that has sheered off right as the base of the plug, but there is no evidence of a green wire anywhere else?!

any thoughts people?!

single white wire is correct. it controls the battery light

the green bit you see is to keep water out the conector

aahh thanks a lot!! im building a track car and using a williams alternator and mk1 alternator brackets, so the plug on the F4 loom didnt fit,
ill just leave it unplugged since i was planning on running a voltmeter anyways!!

NO!!!

It needs to be connected or it wont charge correctly. Cut the plug off and make it fit the williams alternator

oh really?! how annoying!

the plug to the williams/valver alternator was a 2 pin plug, so there are two pins on the alternator, any idea which one it needs to be connected to?

  DON'T SEND ME PM'S!!
with a mk1 alternator you need to add an exciter wire to switch on the regulator. just add an ignition live. I've got to do the same for mine, been meaning to work out which terminal need the live so i'll hook up a test on the bench tomorrow if i remember

i was just reading about this on c16v!!

the valver one has a yellow and green,
yellows the ignition live, and green does the "no charge light",

do i need to connect both so that the alternator will work properly??
why does the "no charge" light need to be connected so make the battery charge properly??

well if you work out which pin on the alternator does what, posting it on here would help me out in a big way!! :D
