Am moving to F7R 2.0 power

Well, what a coincidence that I was talking only last night about this with Scotty16v. Got a buzz this morning from a breakers who had a 2.0 F7R bottom end from a Williams with 42k on the clock. The guy claimed it had been sat on the shelf for months! The car is going in next Wednesday to have it fitted and Im having the bottom end delivered straight to the garage.

I know Ive not always been keen on going for F7R power, but this was too good an offer to turn down and is probably the best mod I could go for considering that I can use my exisiting modified head, cams and manifolds with the 2.0 bottom end. I hope Ill be well into ex-MatBrown/Adi territory now.

One question: can I use the 1.8 F7P ECU until I can get the car to Hill Power or another chip specialist for a upgraded 2.0 ECU? Cheers.

Im just getting the bottom end and starter itself, so will only have my current F7P bottom end and starter for sale. Its always had oil changes every 3-6k and if anyone wants it for a good price then let me know - can be seen running in the car before next Wednesday.

ahhh..........a purest gone.......

ill be sure to wave at you when your plouging the fields!

:p

And Ill wave at you as I leave you for dead on the dragstrip!

Yeah, I was a purist - but by circumstance, not design really. I bought the tuned F7P as it was, but would probably have gone for an F7R if it were my money originally.

Like I say, just too good an opportunity to miss as the F7R has only done 42k.

I did a random web search last night on http://www.Google.comwww.Google.com at about midnight and filled in a form that went around loads of scrappies. I could barely remember doing it, but it worked! I feel a bit guilty as this search resulted from your post about not being able to find one Scotty. If I hear anything else then Ill tell you pronto.

The bottom end and starter alone cost £450. Not the best price ever, but beggars cant be choosers. Will cost me about that again, possibly a bit more, to get it fitted and running with an appropriate chip.

Yeah, big time.

At the time it was the thing to do, but now im buying a house and need a cheaper car i wish i still had my valver cos absolutely nothing can touch it for the money.

Just gonna have to do it all over again, hopefully this time ill start with a willy.

Mat.

Lofty had his sorted with a williams chip form HP, but with yoru mix and match i would prefer to get it setup independantly..........choice is yours.

dragstrip! when in god name would i go on a drag strip! lol........spesh when we have combe up the rd.........oh, there is another track day up there again supposedly.............up for it?

Ben - yeah, Im up for a track day but have to get the engine fitted then am off on holiday for three weeks, so not that soon! I would most certainly lose against someone who has been karting since he was a kiddo! Im sure HP would be able to change their chip to suit my mods.

HP should be, but itll never be spot on.......

im in HK at the mo till august.......so, same boat.

Bedford...............nice, but that price! cant afford it.

wots the power increase ben just from bolting the bottom end on mate, u say u can use the cams etc that youve already got.ta daf

no real power increase as such, just a whole shed load more drivability and torque...........power isnt a product of capacity but processing.......if he doesnt rev to 8k like he used ot but stops at 6500 with teh 2ltr.........peak power isnt going to be much diff.

hehe u kno it makes sense 2litre power is the way forward, literally!

now all these peeps are getin 2litre power i best get me arse in gear with these t/bs

Yeah, Ive been looking into TBs on my F7P engine for a while, but this offer has kind of come up all of a sudden and for once I happen to have enough cash to do it. I figured that Id still have to save for another year to do TBs properly and I might as well wait a little longer, but do it to an 2.0 F7R lump instead. In the meantime I can just enjoy the different driving experience of the Willy bottom end.

I think Id be hoping to move from about 130bhp at the wheels to 140-145bhp at the wheels. But its mainly the torque advantage Im after. Not that more torque, but you get 85% of it at 2500rpm. Thats impossible to get with the F7P 1764cc bottom end and means that you can pull out of roundabouts/junctions far quicker than with the regular Valver bottom end.

yeh i want to do the t/bs properly so i want a bit of cash behind me

from what people were sayin last time it doesnt work properly just bolting em on with the normal head as the ports are too big, and i want a shorter rad too

i think 4pots on the front would be a wise move as well

Though a 2 litre has loads more torque, I find I kept bouncing off the rev-limiter! 6.5k is low when it feels like the car still has loads more power coming!

Yeah. the 2 litre has a different crank that makes it not rev so high.

Still a chip should squeeze another 400rpm out of it. Not much more there. 6900RPM aint bad though really. Although a valver can rev nearer 8. More if serious work done.

Only downside with a 2 litre.

Ben what you got done to your head? cams and ported etc?

Nob!

Craig you are a mental driver mate lol. Youre gonna crash that car of yours drivin like that lol.

The reason the torques supposedly better (I have never found this at all, my mates got a 2 litre cab and although its about the same as a williams my old 1.8 and Bens 19 woudl kick its arse easily) is due to the smaller ports. Higher gas speed so more gets in at lower rpms.

Torque is basically an end product of how much air you can get into the pot whilst the inlets open. More air and fuel you get in the harder the shove so more torque, simple as that.

Its not the crank that limits the rpm its the piston speed. The pistons due to their rather crap design (oil slots, they obviously let the work experience boy design it) will break the skirt away.

Theres also no need to rev it high cos you wont get much if any more power.

if you want a nice road engine for your light car then a 2 litre is all very good. If you want serious power then the 1.8 is far superior.

you talking about the megane having smaller ports?

power = size of the bang X number of bangs per minute

the largest pressure rise at all RPM is all your trying to get.

no no thats how your SUPPOSE to drive.....lol. i dont drive that hard always, only when i feel like it! Have to think about my clutch and gearbox...

Still a 2 litre is the best way of gettin power in the end. Just a straight swap. No messin about with anything.

Id rather have that low down torque. 16vs are fine once you get going but find its hard to accelerate up hills. like say if you turn up a hill from a junction and you wanna overtake. 1st gear seems to low and 2nd you havent got the low down torque as early as youd need it so its hard to get up to speed.
