An interesting FACT for all regarding vehicle mods

  Racing Blue 182
As some of you know i work in a customer relations department for the 2nd largest insurance underwriters in the uk and have many dealings with customerds who have undisclosed mods. I would like to share with you a recent communication from a meeting held with the FOS (for those who dont know, the FOS are in independant orgnisation who deal with complaints about financial organisations- what they say go's).

As you are probably aware, we have many cases of intentional non-disclosure but we also have cases of innocent non-disclosure (normaly cases such as buying a car that already had the mods). Both cases in the past have normaly lead to policys been void, and the customer left to fork out the costs.

Anyways, the FOS have now decided that for any form of non-disclosure which is not intentional (or the customer plays dumb) , insurance companies are not allowed to a void a policy and we have to pay out on a claim made; however they do retain the right to charge the extra premium due and increase the xs.

I am not in any way advising you not to declare mods and can not be held responsible for any part of this that is wrong, but this should help any1
one with cases of none disclosure. Do not accept 'No, its void'', persure it throught the FOS and you will win.

This seems a stupid decision from the FOS, but thought i would let you guys know

any probs with complaints, see these http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/

interesting

what happens about previous cases (about 5months ago)?? my mate had his policy voided because he didn't declare tints

what happens when a policy is voided?? are you "black listed" does this then affect getting insurance else where??

i had an assessor write a report on my car once LOL "extremley moddified", stickers not declared, non standard tyres, rear seats not in place plus other interior trim missing

SO petty!! i then proceeded to swear heavily on the phone and sent them a letter from solicitor, they soon paid up

I had my insurance cancelled in june last year for having tinted windows, twin 5" straight through zorst, 17" ap1 alloys and lexus lights not declared to my insurance (which i didnt even know they had to be declared...serious)...so i took it on the head and took out a policy with nowrich union for £2500 and wrote to the finacial ombudsman explaining my situation...about 4months down the line i got a letter off them saying that the insurance company was wrong in cancelling my insurance due to these mods and they were sorry lol, i was also taken off the cancelled insurance black list!

Still going to take a very brave person to take the risk. From my point of view, everything on the V is declared, including every bit of stereo, too much of a risk as far as i'm concerned

until it's printed in the T&C's of the Polcy, I'll stick with the method i know works

i wrapped a punto hgt around a post when i was 19, in surance paid out first time no problems despite the fact that it was sitting on 18s. my bro also wrapped his corsa sri up not so long ago and the same happened to him, sat on 18s no probs arose from mr insurance. I think personally that as long as the car has the same engine and isnt too boy racer ish, the engineers use theire discretion to decide wheather the cars been screwed and shat on by some lil pecker in head to head burberry. he he how many chavs hate me already? take your time folks.

so if i smash my car and then claim that i had never been told that i had to declair mods im still covered? even if it says somthing about it in the policy documents?

you will more than likely get interviewed by the insurance underwriters if you crash, so if you say '' i did it to get cheaper insurance'' you will not get a pay out and your policy will be void. If you act innocent and state '' i didntt realise my alloys and suspension needed be noted on my insurance'' then they may try to void the policy but if you run it by the FOS theywill make them pay out

As i say, the info is recent so could be subject to change, just thought you guys would be interested as topics always pop up about it

Can a mod please change the title to include 'declaring'? thanks
