annoying noise?

Hi all, I wondered if anyone could help identify what could be causing this noise from my engine bay.
It increases in pitch as the engine revs increase, and it is noticeable with the window up or down. It goes away when the car is idling but reappears as soon as there are any revs at all.
I've taken it to a garage and they were as stumped as me but are thinking maybe water pump or air con pump.
Please could you take a listen to the attached clip? I have left the car idling for a few seconds when the noise isn't there, then give it a few revs to demonstrate the noise.

Cheers

If you can engage an assistant to rev the car,you may be able to see the auxiliary belt slipping over a pulley.
Remove the auxiliary belt,if noise stops, that rules out anything cambelt related.
I would not risk driving with it like that.
Aux belt tensioner could be seized if not changed recently?

Cheers for your help, I will ask someone to have a look with me later. I booked it into a garage to identify the sound and whilst they couldn't do that, they said the tensioner was snapped so they fitted a new one. It hasn't affected this sound at all though :/
Can the aux belt just be removed and tested without it?

Really, did they give you the pieces of the old tensioner?

I don`t understand your question,sorry,could you clarify?

They didn't give me pieces of the old tensioner but looking under the bonnet I can see a couple of shiny new spring type parts which are next to the belts and I assume are the belt tensioners. I thought I'd mention it in case it's relevant as you said the tensioner could be seized up in your first reply. Hopefully I can disregard the tensioner being at fault seen as it's new (and the sound hasn't changed since it's had that work done).
I had another listen under the engine bay and the sound is definitely on the left hand side of the engine and seems to be coming from low done in the engine bay near the water pump but I can't be sure without another pair of hands

the sound is definitely on the left hand side of the engine.

Parts are sided as per sitting in the car facing in the normal direction of travel,so belts are on the right hand side, gearbox on the left.
Not sure you can buy a tensioner unless you purchase a belt kit,so they may have given it a wipe over.Did you get an invoice with a part number?

There are plenty of internet guides of how to change the auxiliary belt, though you will need a tool to release the tension on the belt, can be homemade or purchased.
The belt has to come off to fix alternator, water pump/compressor/belt idler pulley etc,so either get stuck in or find a more competent garage.
If you do remove the belt to eliminate the cambelt pulleys,do not run the engine for longer than it takes to confirm the noise has stopped.
Good luck.

I would have a new aux kit and belt done before you drive it again. If it goes you will need a new engine, also put some tipex on your crank pulley across the rubber part to check if it's slipping, again if your crank pulley goes you will need a new engine.

were they deaf? don't see how you can't find a noise when you have the car there.

Sorry I didn't explain it very well.t he garage heard the noise but could not identify what was causing it, and therefore couldn't fix it:(

Cheers for all your help guys, I think this issue is a bit beyond my abilities so I'm going to book it into a different garage now and get is sorted finally. This time I will try the local Renault main dealer :-0

Lol the noise made me laugh

Pic of the aux belt?

lol, it is a really crap noise - sounds like my engine has a camp voice or something. I would probably fnid it funnier if it wasn't my own engine.

I'll take a pic of the aux belt. What's weird is the belts look fine and don't look like their slipping. I took the bumper off yesterday and was able to get an even better view of that area. It's definitely something around there - wonder if it could even be a bearing in the aircon compressor clutch, or the power steering pump. Wish I knew!

I don't think there are many Renault specialists in this area though 😧
Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire)
Armstrongs in Windsor Walk in Luton have been an independent Renault specialist for as long as I can remember.01582 410801.Ask for Steve.
If you book it in with them,I could see my way clear to run you back to Aylesbury.

Cheers mate, that's very kind of you and I'll keep you posted. I will give them a call tomorrow as Luton isn't too far and I'm desperate to get it fixed before something goes bang. As well as this noise, I can definitely smell some sort of burnt coolant or power steering stench coming into the cabin sometimes, which makes me think it's one of the pumps going bad. All I can do is guess/speculate until it gets looked at by a specialist though.

Cheaper than your bitxx being a month late.

I`m not the same Steve at Armstrong`s in case it crossed your mind.

Haha indeed! Although she has just left me after 6 years together so no longer relevant. I'm digressing but it's not been my week though.
No worries I knew it wasn't your company anyway as have been on their website. I may well take you up on your generous offer for a lift and would of course buy you a drink for your troubles

I like a drink,so you should had better drive..Only joking,I`m fine by midday.

@RichRS182 get it sorted out ?
Yep all sorted now cheers:)
All the help has been much appreciated from everyone and especially @STEVE.M for recommending a decent specialist and taking me all the way back from Luton to Aylesbury once the car was dropped off too.

It turns out the noise was due to a faulty water pump so now it's replaced the noise has disappeared. I have the old water pump that they took off and the squeak is pretty loud when you spin it round. Armstrong's in Luton did a good job in identifying and fixing the issue, and their pricing was reasonable too.
Now the car is back to normal I'm chuffed to bits with it!
