Another ABS issue...

have you checked the loom itself? not just the multi plug?
That's my next job mate, its hard to do on the car due to it being encased in a plastic cover. If that doesn't work than I'll pull the ABS ECU harness to check for damage. Does the ABS pump have earthing points that may have come lose?

Right I have a plan for Aintree on Saturday. I'm gonna fit the worst/cheapest rear pads available (Eicher £7.50 from ECP) and some CL5+ up front, hopefully on sticky R888's this will reduce the rears locking up so easily under hard braking.

  dan's cast offs.

can't for the life of me think?? there is an earth net to the brake m/c but not sure if that's on the abs loom or not, think it is?

am off for a couple of days so can't even check sorry.

Ok so finally managed to sort my ABS, turns out it was the rear sensor and ABS pump. Took it to Garry Burnett a Renault specialist in Warrington and we diagnosed that it was a constant computer fault within the ABS. He told me to try a different pump by just plugging it in without taking the old one out to see if it solves it and it did, had a spare one in the shed, switched them out and sorted, back to normal braking.

Its funny though as i actually prefer no ABS and 50/50 bias on track, i feel its easier to balance the car into a corner. Definitely ABS for road on road tyres though as its hairy at times in a sharp stop at low speeds.

So did you need another abs sensor or just the pump? Mines still buggered so I'll look into this. Glad yours is fixed, abd thanks for updating.

ABS pump and sensor mate. Sensor was defo knackered due to wheel speeds way out on the NSR but what the generic snap on diagnostics didn't state was the ABS computer fault.

So the abs computer doesn't throw up a fault then? Looks this is my next step then. Is the abs pump the same for all clio 2 variants? I can't find anything that suggests otherwise.

Hmmmmm I wonder if that's what's wrong with mine then. I've had the sensors changed but every now and then the lights pop up. The brakes have felt odd for a while now. How much are the abs pumps?

I definitely recommend getting that plug checked underneath by the subframe as mentioned, people may have seen my thread from about 2 months ago. it looked fine in there, was tight and sealed and the abs connections looked perfect. I was 100% it wasn't this. I then replaced everything and still had the fault, while spinning the wheels and one person moving the clip about the wheels switched between which one wanted to work (I highly recommend trying this as it is a simple diagnosis without buying parts just to out rule it) so I then cut the wires to this plug and bypassed it altogether and the lights went out instantly! for the sake of 50cm of wire and heat shrink its definitely worth a go if you don't want to replace the plug as I found it extremely painful to replace the loom. I'm glad you got this sorted JB21 but I hope this may help anyone else still struggling as I went to hell and back with mine and was unlucky enough for no one to mention this plug as a common fault lol!

Today my abs lite up again (last time I had it on for about weekand then after fiddling with steering wheel it gone) its on constantly when flipping ignition, today I changed brake sensor but with no luck... Can someone point me in right dorectionnwhat to check next? Im pretty surebit electrical fault rather than mechanical. I stopped on car park, light off, turn engine off, pluged bluetooth elm, started car and bang light is on, and now it stays on all the time... Saturday I'm going for trackday, and it would be nice to have abs really.

The plug is about 20 inches back from the engine bay, follow the rear abs sensor cables up the chassis and you'll find it. It also has one of the lambda sensors going into it IIRC should be an 8 pin plug but as I mentioned it looked fine inside on mine but checking the resistance at the sensors there was nothing, but wiggled it and couldn't get both wheels to stay live. I cut the 4 cables for the abs and bypassed it but left the lambda and the one that goes to the rear axle alone and I've not had a problem since! Started off as an intermittent fault and got worse until it was disturbed by the subframe coming off and then on it was dead

And the 4 cables I cut was the 4 closest to drivers side, but beware your plug could be upside-down to mine. Also this may not even be your problem but if it is it's an easier fix than replacing a sensor! And easier on the wallet too!

#dorectionnwhat, awesome
No seriously though mate get the car on Clip diagnostics as this will tell you where the fault is within the system. If its the abs pump it will come up with a 'cpu' fault, if its a sensor it will state which one via wheel speed, if its the loom then it should show a fault on one or both rear sensors.
Abs pump £20-40 ebay
Sensors £19-126 (blueprint vs OE) Europe
Under car loom £10 from ebay
Loom from ABS pump to front sensors £10-20 ebay

Exactly what jb21 said which is a lot clearer than mine. While plugged in to clip get one person to spin the wheels while on live data looking at wheel speed and see if it shows anything. If both rear wheels show similar readings it's not the rear abs sensors or loom. If one or neither show data try squeezing the plug in different angles while the other spins and reads and see if it makes a difference. If it does its the loom at fault. Also I don't remember if it was mentioned check the abs rings very carefully as a hairline crack can also cause major problems if people overlook it, especially corroded rings as it's harder to see them. If go with electric fault IMO.

The rings are a good shout, although a corroded ring didn't bring up a fault for me, i just got the car wanting to spin 180 degrees under hard braking and pedal fart <10mph where the abs is inactive.

Here you go mate.

@OssPoop remember when you buy the pump from eBay get one with a return option as you don't need to remove the old pump to check if the new one does the trick, its a case of just moving the header and power steering tanks out the way, unplugging the harness's of the pump and plugging them into the new pump, then switch the ignition on to see if the lights go out.
