Another bloody Coil went today

  FTO GPX 2.0 V6
Has anyone got a how to guide on replaceing a coil and identifying which one is faulty?

I've now had 2 go this year and at £80 a time plus towing charges to get it to the garage its peeing me off. I'd love to have a go, but not sure what to do and how to identify the bad one.

Thanks

unbolt all of them (10mm bolts) start the car and with it running lift each one up in turn-you will know which ones not working as the engine note will not change.
they usually go in pairs.. you will find one maybe two that dont change the way the engine runs when lifted up.

Your probably better of unplugging the connector from them instead of lifting them off the plugs, you don't have to have to take the bolts out then and they won't try to arc either.

I tried this method and when i took the leads of one the car sounded like it was gonna stall and cut out.

I take it this should happen?

Oh and theres a few sets of 4 on ebay for around 40 notes. Dont know wot to make of them tho!

Yes that should happen, if you disconnect any of the coils and they do that then that ones fine. Its the one where it doesn't change thats your bad one.

I've had a set of those coils for £40 of ebay when I had my 1.6 and couldn't fault them, are the exact same construction to the renault ones and never had a problem in the 12 months I had the car for after changing them.
