Another cambelt thread... from a nooby

  Giulietta 940
Before you all ask, I have done a search of the forum, but I'm still a bit confused...

Okay, so my 182 (on 30k miles) is coming up to its 5th birthday, it had a service a few months back and I got my discs and pads replaced. I am aware in the near future it will have to get the belts done, therefore I am trying to figure out how much I will need to save. I have a few other (noob) questions about it too...

1) When the cam belt is replaced, is the aux replaced also?

2) How much would a new cam (and aux if needed) cost fitted?

3) Are there any specialists around Lewisham, south east London or Clacton-on-Sea, Essex that you would recommend for the job?

Your help will be greatly appreciated :)

1) Based on age both belts are due, irrespective of mileage.

2) Both cam & aux fitted with a full aux kit (pulleys & tensioners) will be around £490.00 from a independent specialist, a lot more from Renault.

3) Consider the trip down to Rentech in Portsmouth who have a spotless reputation, or we are in Uxbridge, West London if you have no joy.

Depends where you go tbh, around £500 I think from a good garage? but a Renault dealer will probably rape you,

Thanks for the quick reply. Guess I'll have to put off getting Eibach sportlines put on then :(

If anyone else knows of a good specialist nearer then please let me know :)

Mark Fish in Harlow - he won't be the cheapest but service is great, IMO. He's 45 minutes-ish drive from colchester.

Yeah I did consider going there, plus the gf has family in Harlow. Anybody know how much he charges?

Labout charge is £57 per hour. Not sure on the parts front, give him a ring on 01279 431 628 is my best suggestion. He'll hopefully be doing mine when its due next april, providing he isn't too busy!

Seriously m8 - forget the distance to goto a specialist. It really is NOT an issue. If you need to book time off work, etc then do it. The specialists on here could probably do a cambelt change in their sleep. They know the drill and they know how to get the job done correctly.

Expect around a 75%+ and upwards charge if you go to a Renault dealership. And then on top of that, they will do something totally stupid like put your recently PC'd car through a bloody car-wash. Not that I was a bit livid...... honest.

Well said. To be honest, most specialists should charge a premium over renault because renault get it wrong, but everyone is significantly cheaper.
