Another coilover thread ..

  172
Right guys basically I need to choose between 3 different coilovers fir my 172 track car. The only time it will see the road is to and from the track and I'm not to bothered about it being horrendous on the road as long as it performs on track.

First are the Gaz Golds, having done a search there's a few people slating them? Is this a case of a few bad shocks and everyone's jumped on the bandwagon of there crap? I like the fact there rebuildable, the customer service seems to be excellent, they use a full coilover on the rear and there built here in the UK.

Next is the BC Racing DR series, I know these are fairly new but seem to be highly rated on here? My mate has a set on his 182, they do seem good to me but I have nothing to compare them to. For a shock that uses digressive valving they seem quite cheap? Would prefer a proper coilover on the rear but if there good then there an option.

Lastly is the AVO's. I know nothing about these, just saw them whilst looking, there a bit more expensive then the rest but I'd consider them if there good?

Any opinions on the above? Budget 8-900.

I run gaz golds, can't fault them other than having to wait about 7 weeks for them. Only used on track and car gets trailered everywhere so no idea about road use

  dan's cast offs.
push the boat out and get these

My mate has AST's on his track only clio. Said it's the best thing he's fitted to the car.

going off how much they were a couple of years ago you can probably almost double that

I'm not afraid of spending money the suspension on my other car was was nearly 4K. My Clio on the other hand is a cheap track car and my budget is is £8-900 which I'm hoping will buy me something half decent go have fun with.

Get some second hand AST's? Or some second hand KWV3's. I had a clio with them once, f**king awesome!

I've been in the same boat for some time, at the moment edging toward the BC's tbh. The AVO GTXs are more like £1200 aren't they?

I too would love Asts but finding a decent second hand set that have been well serviced that don't get snapped up quickly is a painful waiting game, plus I like the idea of a warranty with the newer BCs, good customer service, custom choice on spring rates, good anti corrosion, easy accessible damper setting....

Although, I am also all ears regarding best buy recommendations on this budget.

I think I'm going to go with the Gaz Golds purely because there customer service is awesome, they have a full coilover on the rear and I can source a new set for sensible money. I defiantly would not be disappointed with the BC's as from what I've seen they are excellent I just feel the golds are more suited to my needs.

Yeah I think the AVO's are £1100 now, swear they were under a grand a few weeks ago 🙈

I still haven't pulled the trigger yet, so you've got me looking at GGs again lol [emoji848] ... I'm in the similar situation, don't care about road comfort. Do they come with custom spec springs? Also managed to find any deals on em?

That sounds good so they come direct from GAZ and any issue in 2 years just contact them direct?
Just curious how much extra is the external reservoir option for the fronts?

I'm just awaiting some pictures of the external reservoirs as they look nice! So will get a price when they're sent - around £1100+ I think mate.

I'm pretty certain I'm going for the Gaz Golds, just need to decide on spring rates? I know it's a personal thing but any advice appreciated.

Car is stripped, approx 920kg, rear anti roll bar, not running full slicks but decent track tyres. Car will mainly be used at Snetterton but might have the odd trip to other tracks.

I was thinking either 600 or 650 fronts and 450 or 500 rears? I was watching a 750cc spec clio going round last week that was very fast, they use 740 front 450 rear.

Any opinions on this?

I use 800 front and 450 rear on my golds, seems to work for me, along with pms top mounts, black series bushes all round and whiteline rear roll bar.

Will be adding a geo correction kit from ACS Motorsport as soon as the car is back from having cage changed

Thanks. If you don't mind me asking, why did you go that high on the fronts?

Basically as @Adamxx has already said, they seem to work spot on for me. May end up softening the front a little as I improve other areas of suspension (geo kit/lsd etc) time will tell though.

Haven't forget ten about a vid for you, can't find my sd card right now unfortunately
