Another New Runaround - 2000 Audi A3 Sport 1.8 Turbo

Right a little update!

Had the car for a few weeks now and done over 1500 miles, all I can say is how good it is to drive! (once i've spent a few pennies on it!)

Had a stuttering/hesistation when driving that would cause it to run on 3 cylinders at times so replaced all the coils, seemed to work for 50 miles then would do it again. So after going a forum and having a VAG 'Specialist' plug it in to Vagcom the general concensous would be that it was a MAF sensor, plugged a new one of them in and seemed to be alright for about 150 miles then came back. At this point I was starting to get a little cheesed off with it but then after seeing a few more chaps on Audi-Sport.net posting saying that the AGU engine I have in my car has a coil amplifier and that tends to go. Plugged a mates in as he luckily has the same engine in his Golf and voila, sorted! Pretty much mine had a load of white gunge between the the connections so cleaned it up and all seems well, a few chaps did say that you need to put some white CPU paste to go between the contact pacthes to disperse heat but my mate who works for VW said he's never had it on his and has worked fine for years!

So £150 down the drain on changing bits I didnt need, however at least I wont need to change them for a while and I now have 4 spare coils! lol

Also fitted a pipercross panel filter into the standard airbox, smoothed out the inside of the airbox and made the mouth of the airbox slightly bigger to get rid of some of the restriction with the airbox. It has a nice and subtle induction note now and can also hear it dump when changing gear/letting off the accelerator.

Not a lot of future plans really, wanted to have a 'nice' amount of power out of it but for the time it's coming up for a cambelt change. Thought it would be every 70k/4-5 years but my mate who works for VW said VW advice to change it every 40k/3 years as they had a spait of failures, so it needs doing pretty soon!

Will be getting a stage 1 map in the near future though, after going in my mates Ibiza Cupra with a stage 1 thats will ample for my boost needs. ;)

But in short the cars fantastic, good amount of torque which is great for using round town day to day and on motorways it does pretty good mpg (over 40mpg). There's not a single rattle in there and the interiors a lovely place to be, didnt realise it has a BOSE system in it with a subwoofer hidden in the boot beside the 6 disk cd changer, thought it did sound pretty good!

Will get some pictures up at the weekend maybe, might give it a clean seeing as its actually hanging atm!

Cheers
Nick

p.s. - Not interested in those people saying that it has no steering feel, its a bloody runaround not a trackcar! ;) Thats what the clio's for anyways :)
